[Suggestion] Refit for Watermills (Not a Mod-internals Idea)

Current: To the best of my knowledge, all generators can be broken and return a vanilla generator.
  1. Geothermals
  2. Solar
  3. Vanilla (of course)
  4. Haven't tried Nuclear, nor windmills
However, due to the possibility of getting infinite iron via creation/destruction, watermills always return themselves.

Suggestion: The addition of a shapeless recipe that would take 2 watermills and return a vanilla generator. The wood used originally would be lost.

Why?: Let us suppose to either don't use watermills after a certain point or you decide to change that watertower into something else. Without this, you are forced to either recycle the tower and hope for the best, or leave it and go find all new redstone, tin, and iron. With this, you will still need to get the upgrade materials yourself, but at least you have the base generator.

Another way of saying:


  • current Cost of 1 geothermal = 2 refined iron + 4 glass + 2 cells + 1 generator
  • Cost with suggestion implemented = 2 refined iron + 4 glass + 2 cells + 2 watermills.

The only change to it, which i would suggest, is to add the Ability to put Waterbuckets via BC/RP into the Sides of the Watermill, instead from the Bottom.
I don't say, your "insert whatever here" is bad,

Dev op?

Was waiting on a developer opinion, and this has slipped from popular memory. Does everyone still think this may be desirable? I don't know about others, but I occasionally have watermills left over from my early teching. Would be great if I could turn them back into generators (2-for-1) and turn them into lava or nuclear.

To elaborate, recipe would be akin to:

:Water Mill: :Water Mill: --> :Generator:

Also, IC2 developer opinions? Nothing but favorable from the posters, and really nothing more to hammer out.

Why not use one mill instead of two? I do not see any conflicts.
A Rock Raider trained as an Engineer, among other things.

If the assertion was that :Generator: + (misc wood) --> :Water Mill: , then at least in the 1.2.5 version this is not true, and didn't see anything to change that in the recent changelog.

If the question was indeed "Why not :Generator: + (misc wood) --> :Water Mill: , instead of 2" then I believe it is historical. At one point, watermills were made less desirable, so the devs increased the generator yield to compensate. Followed shortly by making it so you couldn't just break the watermill to get a machine-block or generator.

So far as "why not change it back", then I'd just have to answer with a shrug -- I'd assume that the historical reasons above still apply, but that is just an assumption.
