Copypaste from 741 characters too long Steam Review: Anno 2070

  • Seems like Steam reviews don't allow that many letters, but I won't just throw away allmost a hour of writing! Here you go:

Anno 2070, the newest game of the Anno series(Don't tell me about that Online Piece of junk!), has actually some pretty decent gameplay and as a bonus, pretty awesome graphics. However, Ubisoft still got the game to kinda suck. Don't take me wrong, it is still a great game, and I would recommend it to everyone being interested in RTS, but it also has some stuff screwed up.

First of, there is the faction system. There are hippies(Ecos), normal human beings(tycoons) and some aperture employees(techs). While the Tycoon faction is pretty nice, and the idea of needing to get your population to a specific level to get the secondary faction offering great technologies, the hippies are really screwed up. The point is, Ubisoft is trying to make the game sort of educational by making them appearing to be really good and nice and only saving the world, while on the other site, the tycoons are often pictured as evil and irrational baddies. That being not enough, the hippies are also offering bad and exspensive equippment, especially compared to the tycoons. Their special combat ship is a missile turret on a boat that has less firepower then a single soldier with a modern assault rifle(Except that there is no more infantry in 2070, and policemen have swords), and their tradin one is actually quiet usefull, but not usefull enough to make the faction worth it, especially since there are also other ways of obtaining these vehicles. But I guess you get it, Ubi is (successfully) trying to get people play an incredibly ineffient and weak faction by telling them the others are evil bastards.

The next point is the DRM. Scroll down if you want, or don't do so if you want to read this. Well,, you need to be online to access many quiet usefull features. First of, you have a mobile weapon platforum with an increidible uncreative name and no weapons carrying stuff from one savegame to another. Guess what, it is OnlYne. This platform can also be used for really usefull upgrades to all your stuff. Unless you are offline. Finally there is a career system, that is allmost impossible to master, thats rewarding some pretty nice stuff tough. It sucks, as it can heavily influence gameplay, and gess what, it's online. Now I could write some of the more common stuff about UPlay sucking and so on,but I guess you won't want to hear thatanother time, especially from me.

So to the last pointof issues I am having, being...actually, it's just a list of flaws. To begin with, there are many weird things you may notice, even tough they are not affecting gameplay. For example, missile towers are named flak. What do you think of when I say flak? Missile Towers or Anti-Aircraft guns. On another note, these missile towers are mobile, which is kinda funny if you think about Starcrafts Missile Tower being one of th few terran thing you can't move. Anyway, I wrote way too much about that point for something unimportant, so I think I gonna do a real list:
-There is no infantry, and if you zoom enough, you can see policemen using swords. I guess they used a texture from Anno 1404.
-Casinos cost money to maintain. That is probably making the Tycoon appear less evil.
-They can't see the difference between an AI, a hologram and a weird robot-GLaDOS combo.
-They need viri to make an evil Ai become evil and try to get rid of humanity.
-They let viri evolve in sunken stuff. I don't think they have infinitely supplied water-proof PC's without any goodVirus protection. They could have asked Cerberus to borrow them EDI. They allready have that weir Mech from that weird third game of the series.
-They don't think about their story. There are damn plot holes everywhere!
But I guess that was enough bad stuff. I could continue this for hours, but this is allready going to far!

Let's write something positive. As you can see on my profile, I played nearly 150 hours of Anno 2070, because, at the end, the gameplay is what matters, and it is pretty good. You will have to spend some time getting a really good map with all the stuff avaible to you so you have a "base" to start other stuff from. For example, some missions are best done spamming command vehicles, which is really awesome, but requires some upgrading. There are quit interesting AI's, even tough a lot of military strategy goes as the AI has infinite resources and only relies on military buildings. That said, they may be quitchallening when provoked to early, even tough they will never use really devastating weapons like Nukes. Yes, Nukes. Come on, you can't deny a game with Starcraft Nukes. And now that I think of it, Anno 2070 has quiet some similarities to Starcraft, another indicator of it being good. Now I wrote allmost half a hour and I thin you got it! It's pretty awesome, bu not entirely flawless! Get it if you like RTS and it's on Sale!
