The thing was I didn't have Forestry installed.

So you are saying it supports linux a lot better than steam? If so, I'm sold on linux for the most part, unless someone brings up another negative point.
Yeah, but the biggest problem I ran into was that I had to build it from source (you can search for instructions on the net, I think they package some instruction with the Desura tarball), but after that it ran with little problem.
-
Well, I've found Desura to be a fairly decent substitute for Steam in many cases and figured it could work for you until such a time that Valve decides to support the *nix side of the OS line.

any reason besides personal preferences why you would go with nvidia instead of asus?
I would love to have an extreme i7 processor and 16 gigs, but don't have the money eitherNvidia's have a easier time being adjusted to suit the user's preferences. I use an Intel processor, but would go Nvidia in a heartbeat.

Is linux compatibility the reason you posted it?
More or less...

The only one I can think of is BC 2.2.12, especially considering it was the Geotherm that I wrenched. I'll look into any updates, and (if needed) grab the 3.x branch of Buildcraft.

Steam can work with Linux when run under WINE, but requires a bit of work.
Ubuntu is good for those just getting comfortable with Linux (Linux Mint works too.)
There is a program that is like Steam, can't remember it's name, though. I'll edit with it's name once I do find it though.
EDIT: Okay, my hunch was right, it's called Desura.
Link to it's page: http://www.desura.com/

Got this earlier when I grabbed IC2 1.62:

Of course, when we updated the server, it then generated block IDs that corresponded with nobody else's except mine. So now we're handing out config files to everyone except me...
Same thing happened to me, I'm working on a small config sync script that will sync the config files I have (server-side) with my friends on the client side to try to fix that. Not going so well.
EDIT: If you're going to be setting up a server, OS-wise I'd say go with MineOS+: MineOS+ - Home. It's nice and simple, and it does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. I used it's predecessor, and really enjoyed it (until some griefer crashed the server, found him though)

One thing that has quite possibly bugged me since I got going with IC1 and 2, is the fact that the circuits require Refined Iron to make.
Pointless to say, I am a fan of realism, and would like silicon to be made by putting glass into the furnace and making this the necessary component for circuits.
I'm well aware that IRL you would have to heat the sand (SIO2) and purify it, but though I like to be real as possible, I understand that this is Minecraft, and some rules can be bent.
The way I figure that this would work would free up precious Refined Iron and give a value to sand outside of the Reinforced glass and being able to instantly dry the CF. Do keep in mind that the rest of the components would remain the same (redstone and cables).

I definitely like this idea :3 Will probably implement it as part of the rubber set, given its meant to be an hazmat suit (thus its mask requiring some sort of airsupply as well).
For some reason, I smell a scuba suit... and it's not the mold growing in it...

Well, considering that the devs have added agriculture, I can't see why algae farming couldn't be added afterwards.

It is planned, but we have no idea when, and are content to wait.
And, you didn't read this, did you? https://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=502

maybe somebody pranked you and placed an nuke beneath your chest XD
Happened to me once, guy was banhammered and the server shut down till I could figure out a bug that happened at the same time.

Well, you got your first bug:

The square brackets are just brackets used to avoid the smilies.

Will give this a shot soon, for sure.
And I noticed something; was the "Melon Battery" a throw at the ol' potato battery experiment? Oh, and for some reason when I was reading it, all I could see in my mind was GLaDOS as a potato attached to the ASPHD (Portal Gun)...
EDIT: Once, I get my video software working, I'll work out a movie for this.

Huh? Why would you need a retriever? This. The Block Breaker throws whatever it has either into a Tube on into the world, you don't need the Retriever. That's only really for Machines (macerators) and chests.
-
Depends. You can overclock it to a degree which will (given infinite input) quickly overkill any tube/pipe system attached to it, probably causing a error with the whole system going down, in effect causing a nearby reactor to overheat and annilate you.
Not exactly shooting ore, but same effect.Oh dear... There goes my intricately planned auto-mining, processing, storage distribution building... TIME TO REPLAN!!!

Well, the next version, from what I've heard, is supposed to work with Robinton's 4096 Block ID mod quite nicely. So, who knows, maybe this whole thing will work?
