Migrating words? How about making new chunks/ores use the damage packed method so anyone creating a new world now, or doing chunk regens now, can turn off support for the old ore IDs/free those IDs as soon as they are ready. Transition ready releases go a long way to fixing such issues.

Also, it's pain if anyone has any ores stored away in a chest somewhere, those are hard to convert to one ID.

It's different from other mods - very creative and could be fun to play... just not a good fit with stuff like BC, IC and RP. I have, however, used it with Equivalent Exchange and they go together nicely.
In short - a great mod, but not the style I want to play here.

I suppose in that case, I'll just make a separate install for it and give it a run.

I was wondering, what do you guys think of the ThaumCraft mod? I was looking at it and am not entirely sure on it, but would like a mod similar to EqEx but not quite like it, if you know what I mean.

I apologize if this has been asked already, but I'm new.
I'm being bugged by friends to switch to Industrial from basic, but what I'd like to know is whether installing Industrial will in any way mess up my existing Minecraft maps (mostly single-player built puzzle maps). I'd like to keep these intact and working, but wanted to be sure before I mess with anything.

No, if the map exists pre-IC, nothing will happen to the map except that the ores will not spawn in those chunks, you'd have to go really far to find any ores or rubber trees from this mod.

Maybe other 'enchantments' of a technical nature say 'upgrades' for reduced power consumption or higher power storage. If its the implementation that's an issue adding extra batteries, circuits or the like as item combines on an 'upgrade bench'. Or of course there's the options of extra GUI's with slots for 'upgrades' (like the miner).

I think something to this effect is in the works. I think someone suggested Nano-based upgrades, but what if the Dev's implemented something akin to the BC 3.0 circuitry table? You know the one that can make Redstone, Iron, Gold, and Diamond Chipsets when receiving power from Lasers? Just our's would allow for adding special functions to the regular and advanced circuits which can be integrated into existing tools to add "enchantments" or by way of meta-recipes allow to be crafted into new tools entirely.

Of course, such a 'table' would have to be powered in some way. Oh, and the circuits can only handle one "upgrade" at a time and (I really don't know if this is possible, but here it is) the circuit can only be added to an existing tool when the tool/armour is out of EU.

As for the functions themselves, I'll leave that to the community.

To sum it up: a powered "Upgrade Table" to allow for the attribution of regular/advanced circuits for specific upgrades to new or existing tools.

Actually, I can see the logic behind an EV Solar Array, and would mind it at all. It'd really benefit my bunker.

i saw a mod in 1.8.1 that didnt have bedrock and went from real world to nether just by digging down i assume the chunks were loaded but im not sure

Yeah, I know which mod you're talking about. Set the world up so that it was (in order, top down):
    - Aether (if installed)
    - Notch's Sky Dimension
    - Overworld
    - Nether

I would assume in this case the chunks for all four are loaded, but at the same time I would assume, to cut down on lag, there is a sort of barrier between the "worlds" that transfer you and load the proper chunks. But... eh. I don't think it's going to be updated to 1.0 or 1.1 now.

Shared inventories are generally stored either in an array coded directly in the mod, in NBT format for persistent storage (chests), or txt files inside the .minecraft folder (one of the least used strategies).

Loaded chunks are either newly generated chunks that were loaded into RAM (mind, they are stored in NBT, I think), and a new mcr file is written to the hard drive at the same time. In the case of Additional Pipe's ChunkLoader block, it stores the chunk's HDD location and forces MC to load that chunk regardless (I think be overriding MC's vanilla chunk handler).

    Don't confuse the two.

Hadn't thought of griefing since I don't do SMP, but with the energy cost, it is not an easy thing to use - there are much easier ways to break things if you want to be "that guy". The targeted generator is precisely an upgraded tesla coil (there is even one in the recipe) but can a tesla coil make a lightning creeper? I don't think so :) Coding the strikes shouldn't be hard, several other mods do it (EE's storm ring, arrow mod's lightning arrows).

I am a realist, I know the odds of any given suggestion actually making it into a heavily-developed mod like this, I just thought it would be a lot of fun to play with lightning :D

Thanks for the polite tone of the replies, I was bracing for a minecraft forum style shoot down...

Nah, I tend to take suggestions here and on the MCF with a grain of salt.

Actually, looking at the decompiled MC I have here, "breaking" the lightning code to originate from the block wouldn't be too hard, as opposed to forcing the lightning to strike one specific spot (a la Lightning rods). Considering the code (mind, my Java is rusty), essentially forces the lightning to strike pseudo-randomly, I can't see anyway that that can be hijacked, but in reverse, it might work. Of course, the block could call the lighting class/method with the block as the forced point-of-origin as well.

Still, Industrial Credits are easy to craft, resource-wise. You'd need a special license system to knowingly balance this out, or am I wrong?

No, I get what you mean. I was just stating that Al and the Devs do have a machine for this. I suppose on a server, someone could be appointed "banker" or something along those lines and only they could create the Industrial Credits or give everyone a certain amount to begin with.

Ahem... Al is currently working the bugs out on a machine from IC1: the Energy-o-Mat. Owner can set EU prices, and once the EoM recieves payment it "closes" the circuit to say, a MFSU and allowing the buyer to insert say a battery, Energy Crystal or Lapotron.
