"FTFY" , its 2014 now.

Instead of a dev log I'd rather have all those news posted on the industrial-craft.net website, it is feeling lonely since alblaka went poof. It needs some love.

@Pyure:Those are from GT5 and are relatively new. Since they haven't been really documented i will post a compacted information about them.
Metatools are tools that can be made from most materials that GregTech has registered in its material list (metamaterials), including materials from other mods like thaumium, firestone, blue and red steel (edit: TFC - woops, can be produced within GT itself), thaumcraft shards, generic gems...
Each material has unique properties as durability, hardness (mining level), weight (mining speed) and special abilities (enchants).
Some metatools have unique abilities regardless of material type too. Electric Tools are also meta-tools (as their "heads" can be made of any metamaterial).
Metatools include all possible "tool" you can use, from screwdriving to mining, with some "unique" additions like a branch cutter (aka forestry grafter) and scoop (forestry scoop that works on adventure and has a waaaay greater durability)A small note is that Greg added 2 enchants, one called "Radioactivity" for radioactive materials (thus you need a hazmat suit to use tools made of them or you will get poisoned) and another called "Disjunction" for silverish materials (remember the RedPower silver dagger?, bonus damage against endermen).

IC2 uses the most modern steelmaking technique if compared to other mods.
It is derived from the industrial era, where you oxidize the excess carbon (and impurities) using air (bellows).
Nowadays we use pure oxygen for greater efficiency *stares at Greg's Electric Blast Furnace again*Railcraft and others seems to use the old blister method, where iron is carbonized with charcoal/coal.
I think that the name "refined iron" have been preserved for nostalgia or something like (alblaka was the first to introduce it, right?).
Steel IS the product of iron refining anyway. -
It is best to know the truth, even if it is a sad one. I don't care about anyone's race, country or whatsoever "noticeable" trait. Case closed.
Thanks for the translations by the way. -

The amount of carbon in iron (from regular iron ore) is too high (also the amount of other impurities like nitrogen, silicon and such) for it to be considered steel.
Steelmaking process actually decreases the amount of carbon in iron, and it is still an iron-carbon alloy.I think of the air cells on the blast furnace as a reactant, so you burn the Carbon (and other impurities) into oxides like carbon dioxide, silicon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, which gets released into the atmoshpere.

Try suggesting it on the GregTech suggestion thread.
Also i would call it "Sledgehammer", that one you use on demolition of buildings, ya know?
The electric one would be a "Hand Bore". -
I did not notice that particular error for a very long time. I've successfully traveled along with 10 players for node hunting fine.
@aka, can you translate this to me? That russian guy which got banned a week ago sent this to me, and i'm not willing to use google translate or whatever:
Display Spoiler
"ты даже не дал шанса прочитать почту и выйти с сайта. сразу дал полный блок. это вас там в Америке учат? или просто неприязнь к русским?"
Also after i said "i don't understand your language:
"и я тоже не понимаю но перевожу. и не помер еще от этого. google translate" -
After a bit of reading it seems that IC² uses the most realistic production line, where it burns away the excess carbon (and other impurities) from the iron, turning it into "steel".
@Greg if you happen to read this:
Maybe change Electric Blast Furnace to have an alternative process where you use Oxygen (fluid) as a reactant to remove impurities, where the outcome is Steel and Carbon Dioxide.
The energy costs would raise accordingly, as no more coal dust is used. -
@Windmill: I've read that some wind mechanics got altered, don't tell me that you are making the wind stronger on low ground? Cause that is really wrong
Also note that 256 is not the height of the entire minecraft's atmosphere, but the lower end of it. -
I can help with "how to use IC2 crops effectively" , since i was the one who initially bred the high stat crops on kirara.
I will write it a small paragraph about it later, as i'm busy now

Very likely incorrect wiki. Use NEI (Not Enough Items).
-
*Sigh* Fine, but you should do something about that "only being able to stay in the base".
-
Not logging in today and very unlikely in the next two weeks... i'm a bit busy.

I guess the server stopped running it.

That info is scattered on several threads in the forum.
