I would actually be interested in contributing as well. At work I use Jenkins and Apex (A Java based language) and I have learned how to compile and modify existing mods. I am generally better tuned to writing logic based code rather than math based code.

I tried with with BuildCraft 7.99.16 and it doesn't seem to work.
I didn't want to go back to 7.99.15 because I am stubborn, so I decided to try to make it work with 7.99.16 instead.
I have never Java'd before, but I thought I'd give it a try. After much mental swearing and a little google-fu I seem to have produced something that works.
I didn't see a license, so I wasn't comfortable posting a jar file.

I not use any textures!
Textures on screeshot is from mod, icon for tools also changed, and also worse that previous.
Need "two beer or not two (maybe three) beer" for previous artist, for return normal texture. Three machin with same look is poor style.
My apologies, I misunderstood and my issue is clearly unrelated to your reported concern. I usually have a texture pack applied so I'm not familiar with the prior appearance.
My reported issue is that texture packs aren't being applied to machine blocks, but then I found it was already reported.

Actually apparently you have a bug tracker and the issue is already reported > https://bt.industrial-craft.net/view.php?id=2357
I haven't played much minecraft since redpower 2 stopped receiving updates, and I finally moved on. Things have gotten -- complicated since then.

It appears that texture packs (in my case, this texture pack) now shows the default textures for machines instead of the texture in the pack.
