I have a brother that uses the same computer as I do for minecraft. However, he does not want industrialcraft, as he thinks it is too complicated. So instead of having to convert all the tin, copper, and uranium in the ground into stone, I think it would be nice if you had some way to turn the ore and rubber tree generation off, on a world to world basis. While an option in the options menu would be nice, just a little text document in each world file would be fine. Anything would work, as long as it saves it to the world and not globally. (P.S. when clicking on the create new world button, there should be a little option below the seed box for turning off the IC generation.)
Suggestion: Turning ore generation on and off

Use a separate .jar file for your mod and another for vanilla minecraft. Talk to your brother about this and do some research as far as how to switch out mods. I'm not quite certain my suggestion is the correct way to go about this, but it's in that general direction with manipulating your minecraft files to produce that result.
I hope this helps alleviate that sibling conflict that can arise from these sorts of problems
