Early game (ie. Still mining to get steam machines), potions are impractical. We really would need a cheaper way to heal a little, something like a bandage could work. And if you were really worried about balance, it might only be able to heal up to half health or something like that.

What would you suggest? The issue that I can see coming is that fun will get abused, for example, Open Blocks has fun things like item cannons, but suddenly it's a cheaper alternative to pipes. Agree we need to be careful of how hard and grindy things get, especially with Greg's ore generation.

Dodgy formatting aside, it really needs some other mods, at least Buildcraft, Railcraft and Forestry. Just IC2, Bukkit and Minecraft is realistically too Spartan to be fun after a while
