Because they're broken. IC2 is far from finished porting to 1.8.

It's been removed and recipes reverted that used to use turning blanks.

It accepts heat and a cold fluid, which is in turn converted into kinetic power and a hot fluid. The 2 slots on the left and right are for cells for the tanks, while the 3 in the middle are for upgrades.

The API classloader issue doesn't actually stop you loading the game or playing with IC2 (it happens client side as well), Forge has appeared to have slightly changed how it loads APIs so it complains how IC2's is loaded from in the mod jar.

Which version of Gregtech? Also I recommend Binnie Patcher if you want to use Forestry 4 and Binnie's Mods, otherwise you'll most likely have to go looking for older versions of certain mods.

The wooden scaffolding recipe hasn't given 16 in years, ever since Greg nerfed it.

Since the addon's licence is so nice, and I might have been curious to mess around with 1.8's rendering, I've ported it to 1.8.9.
As well as all the old features, the new version also supports the in game config GUI, meaning that the settings can be configured from in game. Meaning you no longer have to suffer the long re-start time of Minecraft just to move the HUD around.

I dunno if this has been fixed in the recent version (as I can't test the update while I'm away from home) but Version 5.0.9.19 has issues with Harder Peaceful, crashing the game when I try to eat or drink gregtech food or drink items. it seems to be an issue with Harder Peaceful not liking something in this modified version of gregtech but works fine with the official gregtech 5 for MC 1.7.10
If needed I can post a log and/or crash log if that will help.
A crash report is going to be useful, especially if it is still an issue.

If you put Empty Cells in the left slot instead of Universal Fluid Cells you'll get the right type out for the crafting recipe.

No, the tier of the generator will always limit the amount it can output, no matter how much the config makes it generate.

The issue is it's missing the ejml library server side at least. In the mods folder there should be an ic2 folder with it in, but it could be an effect of Forkage mashing everything into one jar if it is there.

The scanner will put whatever it scanned into the pattern storage, so it's idle waiting for something to be put in and start to be scanned.
