With the OP's post, the reactor becomes cheaper and safer if you replace the Advanced Heat Vents with Overclocked Heat Vents.

I was thinking that the stuff left over when you burn coal in a generator could be used as a fissionable material as well as being purified into better radioactive things.

How about Polonium, Radium, or Neptunium as materials that you can use for EU in a nuclear reactor? You've added two major ones (Thorium and Plutonium), but it'd be cool to have even more.

It's a generator except it gets a bonus from coal and charcoal and things based off of those. I already made an image (earlier project) :
. Since Coal and Charcoal emit a total of 4000 EU in a normal generator, in this they generate, say, 16000 EU. I'm unsure on the crafting recipe, however. Maybe something with a furnace?

Well, if you consider "severe waste of resources" to be something bad, then yes, maybe
However in terms of running safety, when the reactor planner tells you "Generation time: full cycle" and calls it a "Mark I" in the heat bar up top, you can be sure it won't blow up on you. Provided you don't place components the wrong way. It can happen to anyone. For 100% safety, babysit the reactor during its first cycle.
I consider resource waste as bad only if there's a much better option that sustains the same level of safety.

Share your pure-uranium reactors with me. They should be considerably stable (Mark I or Mark II), and only use the parts from IC2, not Gregtech.
