Check your ID-Config, thats maybe the Problem.

I run a server for my dad and me, my sister comes on extremely rarely. So here is my problem, I was looking for copper and tin for our first generator and didn't see any. My dad got home and got on the server to help my search for tin and copper. I couldn't see any but he said he saw white ore so I told him it was tin and went to him and looked where his character was looking. I saw nothing. I ran across the house to his laptop and asked him to go back up the cave tunnel we came down in. The walls had an immense amount of copper. I ran back to my screen and went to his characters position. I saw no ore but coal and a small amount of uranium. I think i understand the result of said bug, minecraft refuses to acknowledge the ores as nothing more than a air block. But I need a solution so please help me so I can show dad some IC2 stuff. Also I went in single player and tin and copper just don't generate in the first place.
