Yea, and you should throw it like a snowball but not as far and it should be temporary and just slow down the mob.

Like it could be low voltage and Redstone conductive. It could be crafted by Redstone the recipe would also yield 6 wires.

There could also be refined iron poles that you could slide down faster than ladders
And if you have a powered magnetiser and metal boots equipped you could slide up faster than ladders. crafting:
