I'm just thinking that there should be some sort of wire that could hold EU and Redstone current at the same time.
Like it could be low voltage and Redstone conductive. It could be crafted by 
Redstone the recipe would also yield 6 wires.
There could also be refined iron poles that you could slide down faster than ladders
And if you have a powered magnetiser and metal boots equipped you could slide up faster than ladders. crafting: 
The recipe would also yield 4poles
I don't know if I just described a ironfence but they never seem to work
