Suggestion: [Trunks, new alloys and power plants]

  • Name: Electricity trunks, steel, aluminum, steel and alluminum alloy wires, power plants, bigger generators...

Description: So, first idea, electiricty trunks that would be made like in real life. The construction would be of steel or reinforced concrete, wires that would be of a steel and aluminum alloy that would condust the electricity and isolators which would be made of glass. This would be easier to carry the electricity all over the place instead of using ground wires. Although the wires on the trunks woldn't need to be crooked. This could directly power the railroads and you could make electric lamps to lighten up the walkways instead of torches. We could make steel from carbon and iron. I am not sure that aluminum does exist so please import it.

Second idea, power plants: they would basically make electric energy. So, example a hydroelectric power plant would have a turbine which would be underneath a river. Later the mechanical energy that would be made in it would be connected to the generator which would make electric energy. And yes, we could make a bigger generator that would make more ammounts of electricity by putting a lot of smaller generators on one another.

    Recipe:
    For steel:
    (I)(C)(I)
    (-)(-)(-) - for 4 blocks of steel
    (-)(-)(-)
For aluminum: none, this would be found somewhere around.

    For steel and aluminum wire:
    (S)(-)(S)
(-)(A)(-) - for 4 long wires that would connect 4 trunks.
    (S)(-)(S)
For the bigger generators: they would be just be placed on one another as I said before.

I beg you, please consider these ideas, they would make a massive improvement to the mod and ease everything up. Thanks for your time.

Please Enlighten me on what you mean with the purpose of the first suggestion: Is it some sort of energy storage device?

As for the second Suggestion: There's already some Alternative Energy Generators in the game (Such as the water wheel, which can supply power from water simply touching it), so I wouldn't think that any more would need to be implemented (your idea of a "hydroelectric power plant" already exists in the game by arranging water mills correctly).

  • This was what I meant. This would be a lot more compact way to route electricity around. And yea, if this gets added the steel would need to be crafted in some kind of poles to make the trunk.

This was what I meant. This would be a lot more compact way to route electricity around. And yea, if this gets added the steel would need to be crafted in some kind of poles to make the trunk.

So it'll have it run a lot of power through a small set of lines? That can already be achieved with High-voltage lines, and adding them together with a switch cable, and wouldn't need the addition of a new block and newer materials (If I get what you're suggesting).

Well yea, that basically is what I meant, High-voltage lines are lines
on trunks. Only thing is that I would nonetheless, like to have the
steel construction, cause I think that running wires on the ground is
kind of "old-fashioned". To lead the electricity up to something you
need to post blocks and that is a waste of resources. So my idea is to
have the leads in the air, the leads would be connected to each of the
steel constructions (trunks) and then without the substations that would
convert them to lower voltages (or maybe even with, that's up to you)
they would be connected by ground to the thing you want. For example,
the railroads, all of them would be powered at once. Think about it, it
    saves time and blocks.

  • Um, what?

    Refined Iron = Steel

    We already have steel.

Also, I'm not sure why we need these trunks...you do realize that you can just place cable floating in the air if you really hate the ground so much.

  • Um, what to you.

Refined iron is not steel. Steel is, in some cases made from refined iron. If my idea gets approved refined iron could be used to make steel.
And about the trunks. This what you are proposing isn't logical, where in God's name did you ever see floating wires. As I said before and I will again, by adding steel into the mod
it could be used to make the steel construction on which the wires would be connected. Isolators (glass) would be there so the wire doesn't touch the trunk.
The recipe for the islolators would be (-)(G)(-)
    (-)(G)(-)
    (-)(G)(-)
The high voltage would be converted to lower voltage and DIRECTLY power up the thing that needs to be powered. Clear now?

  • Ok, so refined iron isn't exactly equal to steel whatever.

It may not be logical to have floating blocks, but this is Minecraft, how much is logical? Do you really expect Al to add something to this mod that not only uses up precious ID's, but is completely for your aesthetic purposes? I simply can't understand how you could expect the entire physics of Minecraft to just magically change because you want to add useless things to hold perfectly stable cables into the air. If it really bothers you that much, make your own trunks out of iron blocks and glass!

What you are proposing is not an addition to the mod, it is a detraction from the current capabilities, and I can guarantee that nothing that removes a perfectly capable and functioning system in place of more complexity and effort will be approved.

  • Um, what to you.

Refined iron is not steel. Steel is, in some cases made from refined iron.

i am sorry to ask this but did you not do research on how they make steel? the basic process to make steel is just reheating it up then cooling it down rapidly. its call tempering. or hear treating. you don't need to add "carbon power" the the steel because in most cases it get to much carbon from the air alone much less you adding carbon to it. so yes refined carbon is steel. please do a little research before you tell some one that something is not what it is. it just does not look good on you. believe me i have don't the same thing that is why i research then i get back to them.

  • No, you do a little research. The process of making steel goes like this: first off all, steel is made in Siemens-Martin ovens. Those ovens lay on two chambers in which gas is heated up. In the rack pig iron, hematite and iron waste are porn in. The oven is heated up with carbon dioxide or how it is called in industry generator gas so the burning would be more complete. The process goes on until the percentage of carbon in the metal is below 2%. What you said is carbon steel which has up to 2.1% of carbon in it. Since none of this is possible my idea is only to mix iron and carbon together as my recipe says above.

And to Xaviier: Precious ID's my ass, this would only need 3 extra ID slots. For the isolators, for the steel and steel poles to hold the trunks. The poles would just be placed in some way to make the trunks. The High-voltage leads would be connected to the isolators. Doesn't it seem unreasonable if only 3 ID slots will be taken to have wires floating in the air. You said that it would change the physics, yea it would but in a good and a nicer looking way. And on the other hand, don't you think that directly powering up something is more efficient then going threw a bigass set of redstone wires that are placed on the ground. Minecraft isn't realistic which doesn't mean it can not be made that way.

Back to the topic at hand now, instead of Squabbling about how steel is made:

I don't think Al will implement the Trunk idea, due to it being a purely "ascetic" suggestion. I've tried setting up something similar to what you're suggesting in my test world (Very small scale), and with some creative wiring and so Redstone-Fu with a switch block. I could easily bleed some energy off the line into Nearby MFSU for what ever I'd need it for.
