Hello, is there any plans to make IC2 open source? I think it will benefit a lot, we could port it to newer versions, fix bugs, and more stuff with the code being open, but until that we still have to play 1.12

WIll IC2 get open sourced at some point?

In case you have missed, there's 1.18 nightly builds: http://jenkins.ic2.player.to/job/IC2/job/1.18/
As for open sourcing IC2 I also agree that some people (like me) might want to help fix bugs/upgrade to newer versions/add new things.

I fear there isnt anybody left from the dev team to answer

Open sourcing IC2 could definitely breathe new life into the mod! Community driven ports to newer versions of Minecraft would be great for those of us still stuck on older versions enjoying space waves. Plus, the potential for bug fixes and new features developed by diehard fans is pretty exciting.

I doubt this will ever happen. There are to many licensing issues as the code isn't fully owned by 1 person and the majority of the team is gone.
And the law where the mod is created is extremely strict. On top of that, open source isn't required to make addons.
At least with java.
Simply put you can decompile the mod to read the sourceAnd doing that isn't illegal since there aren't protections in place anyways by default.
If a standard decompiler can't decompile the mod the its a different story.Anyways, i remember a time where mods weren't stopped by "Its not open source that's why i can't write addons".
The main problem is that the mod is not maintained and greg covers the people that want complexity so it its a niche within a niche since it gave up its original style/design.
So if you want to write addons, just decompile the mod or integrate it into your IDE and then just extend it.
