My name is shipovskijkorp, and I'm a novice Minecraft mod developer.
I am writing here because I would like to ask the original developers or copyright holders of IC2 Experimental for permission and recommendations regarding the possible migration of IC2 Experimental to newer versions of Minecraft.
I really like IC2 Experimental, and I find it sad that it has not been ported to modern versions of Minecraft. I know about the classic branch, but in my opinion, it is very different from the experimental IC2 (and to be honest, it is not ic2 for me), and I would like to preserve the style and spirit of the experimental branch as much as possible.
What I would like to ask for is permission to migrate IC2 Experimental to Minecraft 1.20.1 and newer versions, ideally for both Forge and Fabric.
My preferred idea would be to port it under the name “IndustrialCraft 2 Experimental Community Edition". If the original developers or copyright holders prefer a different approach, I would also be open to working under the original name, contributing to the original project, or meeting any other conditions they deem appropriate.
Of course, the authorship of the original developers would be clearly indicated everywhere, and all relevant notices, links, and license information would be included. I am not trying to claim ownership of IC2 Experimental or its assets. I just want to ask if a respectful postponement will be allowed by the community.
If monetization on platforms such as Modrinth or CurseForge is allowed, the original developers or copyright holders are free to set any conditions for it. Monetization is not my main goal.
If transferring IC2 Experimental itself under this name is unacceptable, I would like to ask if it is possible to get permission to use the original IC2 Experimental resources/textures in my own project in which I am trying to replicate ic2 exp. I am ready to discuss any conditions, restrictions or requirements.
I understand that the chances of obtaining permission may be slim, and I fully respect any decision made by the original developers or copyright holders. If the answer is no, I will accept it.
If anyone from the original IC2 experimental team, or anyone who knows who currently has the authority to approve or reject such a request, sees this post, I would greatly appreciate any response or recommendations.
