[Question] Solar and Redstone -- Imagined Functionality or Changed? (Answered: Imagined)

I recall reading that solar panels emitted a redstone charge when they are/were providing power. Am I remembering poorly, or has this changed?

As a side note, I know I can achieve this functionality with a detection cable and a splitter. I'm just curious if I'm imagining something or remembering an idea thread instead of a feature list.

Thanks for the confirmation. I hadn't heard about either of those (with the possible exception of BTW, which never used). If it was never part of any release, I assume that it was part of a "it might be nice if" session that I remembered poorly.
