What is the ratio of Ku to Eu?
4 kU = 1EU -
The kinetic generator's purpose is to convert kinetic units (kU) to energy units (EU). The kU comes in from either the kinetic wind generator or the kinetic steam generator (or it might be turbine, I forget). The input side of the kU is the side that is facing you when you place it. This can of course be changed using a wrench. EU can come out from any of the sides either with a cable, or directly to an energy storage unit.
Does that answer your question, or do you need it in any more depth?

Craft Guide is fine, but only until NEI is released

You should be ok. Some things will be gone, but they were either the transition items from 1.6 to 1.7 or the fuel can/plant ball fuel chain stuff that was reworked.

Does this mean all your mods are coming back? Because if so then life is good. Bluepower is out, Elo is back (God knows if we'll ever see Redpower 3...) and now you and your mods are too

No. And even if you could, it's essentially useless.

Right now it's just a weird orange/yellow, rubber sheet style object that slows you down and sometimes stops fall damage. -
Right now it doesn't have one. So you'd better use the quartz for something more useful

Heck, with 1.8 you'll be able to use slime blocks and pistons to fire the batteries up to your windmills, and droppers to get them down

You don't even need an ender chest, you could put a long pipe down to the ground.
