After noticing in the configs that Geologica lapis ore doesn't generate when GregTech is installed, and the COG version of lazurite veins wouldn't generate since I had disabled GregTech ores in the COG tabs, I went ahead and installed Mystcraft and explored a random age for a few kilometers, but then it lagged so bad that I tried to quit the game and it got stuck on "Shutting down internal server" for 10 minutes and I had to use MultiMC's "Kill Minecraft" button. In the morning, I'll see if the game will load.

Edit: the world loaded, but then quickly lagged completely again (after killing two cows, the third showed no reaction to being attacked, though I was able to travel further north to the edge of the generated chunks, and I even tried to use my linking book, but the GUI for it wouldn't open)

Yeah, redwheat is the tricky one. If I let it see the sky, then it won't grow during the daytime. I don't think I'll bother growing flowers via IC2 crops, though - I've already got more flowers from Forestry bee breeding than I know what to do with.

Heh. That's not quite what I had in mind. IIRC, Mystcraft cave worlds don't have a top layer of bedrock, so I'd be able to use the swampland above the caves, which would already be at layer 128 or above. Perhaps that would be overpowered though, especially if I used symbols to make it always daytime in that age.

Thanks. I was aware of the existence of the ethereal bloom, which indicates the original biome is remembered somewhere, so I figured there might be a chance that IC2 crops would go by that, but apparently not. The swampland I found only has a few sinister nodes, so I might just build my farm around the Eerie biomes. Either that or install Mystcraft but disable the ore-block and liquid symbols (other than water and lava) in the config and make a cave world single-biome swampland age.

New semi-related question: If I have some "Eerie" biome (Thaumcraft 4) that was originally swampland, how does that affect crop growth?

Mox in a fluid reactor doubles its heat output once the reactor heat is above 50%. I've read that superheated steam produces more EU from the hot coolant than stirling generators, but I'm not convinced it's worth the extra complications. Other forum member can probably help you better with that than I can.

I think in 5.08.27 it was possible to macerate PFAA Geologica Limestone (including the cobblestone form) for calcite dust, but that recipe doesn't show up in NEI using 5.08.29. Was that deliberate?

The Component Heat Vent works differently. It cools adjacent components (by 4 each) without storing the heat in itself. Components that can give heat but not store it (e.g. fuel rods) do not affect adjacent Component Heat Vents.

Platings and component heat vents neither degrade nor accept heat from other components, so there's no point in them having damage bars.

I redid my calculations using 400k EU as the deuterium production cost, and now the EU profit at 50% plasma gen efficiency is 353712 EU per cell, so it would take a little over 113 cells worth of plasma to break even with the startup cost.

I'm a bit confused myself as to how the startup energy will be used, but my guess is that it takes that much to initiate fusion, then as long as it remains supplied with sufficient matter, it keeps the reaction going, using the "Total" (65536 EU for the D-T reaction) per operation.

These output 4 L per process, so the centrifuges only need to run 1250 times (400k EU - my old calculations had it as 80k EU, so maybe that recipe changed) and 250 times (320k EU) respectively to make that much deuterium and tritium.

I hadn't calculated that part before, but now I come up with a figure of 26252 L of each to break even with the startup cost, so over that would give positive EU gain. 37975 L each if you want to recover the processing costs of making the deuterium and tritium as well (though that's still ignoring cable losses, the costs of making empty cells to fill with oxygen when electrolyzing the water, and any costs of pumping the water)

Unless the recipes have changed costs since July, I think your math is a little off. I calculated things on July 8th (relevant post), and presuming you intend to electrolyze water for the hydrogen (not the cheapest in terms of EU, but easiest to get an abundant supply of, especially if not using the CodeChickenCore finite water setting), what I came up with was a total of 118 LV electrolyzers (which can be put into 8 processing arrays), 157 LV centrifuges (10 arrays), and 32 MV centrifuges (2 arrays).

Looks like it's actually something lower than 1/4 (but at least 1/50, because of the crushed ore to dust recipes). By my calculations, a 2000 EU LV recipe would use 1/4 of the internal buffer of a steam forge hammer, but when I tried in creative mode, making long palladium rods (1696 EU at LV), starting with a full internal buffer of steam but no further input of steam, still choked after making 4. I don't feel like tracking down the exact threshold right now, though.

Is there any documentation of this "governor"? I though it might be related to the fact that crushed-ore to dust recipes only take 1 second per operation with a steam forge hammer (20 ticks, since at LV they take 10 ticks).

I discovered an interesting quirk today (using GT 5.08.27): a steam forge hammer converting crushed ores to impure dusts will pause occassionally if the steam runs low, but it doesn't show the "insufficient steam" symbol or play the associated sound, and it can resume on its own after a few seconds without needing to be temporarily disabled via soft hammer.

Like Chocohead said, being able to plant the seeds isn't always a good test. Seeing if the planted seeds actually grow to the next stage in that location is probably more reliable. Also, the mod Wawla ("What are we looking at", an extension of Waila) can show light levels on the crop sticks.

I haven't used OpenBlocks, but I find no documentation to indicate that an OpenBlocks tank is capable of storing fluid when carried in item form rather than placed as a block, so I'm not sure adding such an ability to the pump would even work (it would need some changes in the OpenBlocks mod as well).

Using a fluid ejector upgrade, I'd expect it to already be possible to output from a pump into an adjacent placed OpenBlocks tank. I'm not sure either IC2 or OpenBlocks has anything for transferring from a placed OpenBlocks tank to an IC2 pump, though.
