I like realism too, i'd like to have this in game.
But, it would lower the cost of pretty much all devices. For example: solar panels would become much cheaper (8 iron compared to 10 iron). If we would use "circuit base" (silicon + refined iron) to make circuits instead of just iron, it would be better imo. Sand is negligible if you find desert or coastline, which is almost everywhere.

Hmm... I think such thing would be only useful earlygame, since it would produce only low amonut of energy. Also you can have only one "running" at a time. Considering all that, it has to be either cheap, or producing more significant amount of energy. I like the idea, but how effective would it be ?

I have nothing to say but this: http://forum.industrial-craft.…page=Thread&threadID=3590
It looks like no official statement appeared there. -
Have you tried turning it off and on again ?
-
that is just the exact same reactor but only with an more compacted design. it doesnt mater for cost / eff so its safe to say they are identical
Are you sure about that ? I would say it is cheaper. And same + cheaper = better. Don't you think ? Coolant cells are way cheaper than hull platings. -

Improves on Rick's Mark I #1 by adding 1 Uranium, 2 IHD's, and 3 CC's. It will even stay Mark I if the top and the bottom blocks of the reactor are not covered by water (23 water surrounding instead of 25).
"Improves" is tricky word here, since it is less effective and costs more. Overally very good starting design if one wants higher EU output in my opinion.
Edit: how about this http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…=1p10101001501521s1r11r10

Thanks for reply.

Does someone know that ? It is based on the IC code or it just applies rules described in wiki ?
Some examples:
1. made by Rick - http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…=1o10101001501521s1r11r10
2. made by me (it is horizontally flipped Rick's design) - http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…=1o10101001501521s1r11r10
notice that original design can run 25.00 cycles and flipped one can do 25.06 - nothing actually changed in design1.made by dezuman - http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…1k101010037ps011111101110 (not sure if it has to be right-top or left-top corner)
2.made by me (again it's only flipped) - http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…1k101010037ps011111101110
in this case, cooldown time is reduced by 5 seconds, which actually affects effective EU/t - again, nothing changed in designOne may say those differences are unimportant, but they are there. I'd like to know then: Do certain flipped designs actually perform better or it is caused by wrong reactor planner calculation ? / Will reactor design work same ingame as it does in planner ?

question is: Who's next ?

You know, there was a time i ate people for referring to my color as black. But then I took an arrow to the stomache and switched to merely killing them :O It's a dark purple, can't you tell?
And now, i don't think Ciruelo, or however his name was spelt, created the picture after a M&M Black Dragon.I just had to do some googling. I was surprised how easy it was to find it. Just typed "black dragon" to google... Not sure why "purple dragon" or "dark purple dragon" didn't work though.
I also found whole image in Ciruelo's gallery, but it wasn't yours.I couldn't find source, I was only able to find this(dragon in the first picture). I know i have seen it somewhere.

Shame we won't be able to paint sheeps to make them have babies of same color...
Offtopic:
I was wondering: Is your avatar Black Dragon from Heroes of Might and Magic ? It totally reminds me of that. -
If that is question then yes, you can use flowing water too.

Do those backpacks share inventory? or is there some limit to them? What stop you from just filling all those slots with backpaks to carry a unlimited number of stuff?
At least EE Bags limit yourself to 10-15 bags due to shared inventory between the same color (Besides how expensive it is to make them), and these toolboxes would not allow to carry machines/blocks in them, so abuse its not that possible (or at least its heavily crippled).
You can't put backpack in another backpack. Only special type of bag share inventory(Bag crafted with diamond). I think there isn't limit. -
And how about doubleclick ? Can that be used ?
Will it mess with single rightclick ? -
I like this. Also cooldown time when switching between breeding and energy production can be taken into account to calculate Effective EU/t for this process.

A concept idea of mine:
ToolBox is an item with two states, open and closed.
Rightclicking with open toolbox will store all storeable items (API will carry an interfaced method. Per default all items with maxStackSize 1 (vanilla tools) are storeable.) from the hotbar within itself, "clearing" your hotbar and turning into the closed state.
Rightclicking with closed toolbox will unpack the stored items again, pushing any current items of your actionbar (either into your inventory or, if thats full, drop).
This way you can carry a few toolboxes in your hotbar, each containing items for a specific situation. Mining, fighting, building, etc...
Via the API-Interface any item can be made storeable. Would be applied to cables, Scaffolds and probably batterys. (cant think of more currently)
I usually never bother reading recipes in Suggestions, because it's entirely irrelevant for the decision whether or not to implement stuff. Recipe is always the last thing implemented :3I didn't think about batteries and other unstackable stuff. This way, it may not be that bad idea. Actually i'm using backpack mod to store unstackable things like uranium cells, coolant cells and so. (One does not simply fill 6-chamber reactor at once.)
-
Entirely valid idea. A special toolbox to store only specified items in :3 Would include batterys, scanners, electric tools... but exclude blocks and other stuff.
Could consider coding this
Uh.. well.. ok. I still find recipe very expensive though. -
I also edited your design once again Rick.
here it is http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…=1o10101001501521s1r11r10. -
my last work - http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…1k101010037ps011111101110.
Edited dezuman. -
Recipe looks very expensive. I see no use in such expensive "tool only" storage. After all, you usually carry only 3-4 tools. This amount is barely enough to even consider crafting such thing. If you want to have more slots in your inventory, you may install some of backpack mods and carry only tools there. I see no reason for this to be part of IC2.
