i have a dream to build a uum supplied floating fortress completely separated from the ground

as for reactor like machines how about some sort of conveyor belt item powered by motor items that lead to processing items if every thing is to close together it will overheat and break but if they are to far apart it becomes very inefficient(AFAIK the reason the dev don't make factories possible in vanilla IC2 is cause they only add efficient stuff(no animations) but what if the factor was just a string of blocks with a reactor like gui?)

if you make the machines components position in the machine matter just as much as its selection the fun factor may be enough to carry this idea through despite cry's about balance.

EDIT:but like the advanced machines this probably won't be reality until some one breaks down and codes an addon

i think some of the inconveniences of the agriculture system would be worth it if you didn't need to go digging for redstone first(to make extractors and recyclers) perhaps a redstone free way to manipulate the nutrient and hydration should be added. this would also mean you could use industrialcraft in superflat or skyblock with out cheating(step one would be "grow redwheat")

    fusion crystal
uses the uranium around it to create fusion

    how to craft it?
a electrolyzed watercell in the middle with cooling cells in the corners and diamonds in the remaining spaces

    what does it do?
when it is surrounded by uranium cells there is a chance each tick for it to randomly generate a EV eu-packet and ALLOT of heat each. fusion crystal can generate 40 million eu over its lifespan

    whats so special about that?
its a relatively cheap but VERY dangerous way to generate allot of power. it would be tempting to make a cheap high output reactor that can take a spike every 20 ticks or so but what if you get spikes 20 ticks in a row? better load some ice stacks just to be safe.

when ic2 updates to 1.2 just build your solar panels and base high enough that no one can see you (bonus points if this base has no physical connection with the ground(no ladders, no stairs, no water falls, and no magnetizers)). at layer 255 you will be further from prying eyes than if you were at bedrock.

    heat recovery device(needs better name)

    how to craft?:
some combo of a integrated heat dispenser, a generator, maybe some carbon plates?

    what does it do?:
it does NOT add to the reactors cooling. instead each tick it generates EU equivalent to a fraction of the heat damage it takes that tick

    whats so special about that?:
you sacrifice precious space to squeeze out a little more EU.

    uranium graphite pebble
    think pebble bed reactors

    To craft:
a uranium ingot surrounded by coal dust

    whats it do?:
at a certain temperature range it will stop reacting with adjacent uranium and as a result drop efficiency and stop generating excess heat (effectively becoming as if it was a uranium cell standing on its own) it will then resume reacting with adjacent uranium when the temp drops. normal cells will still react with the uranium graphite pebble even if the pebble is to hot to react with the cell

    whats so special about that?
it makes safer uranium dense reactors but will be much less efficient if allowed to run its natural course.

Now what are your ideas rick?

cobwebs are transparent so solars would still be fire and forget they just look ugly

and as for alternatives not turning out enough power. that is why you have the alternatives make it easier make more scrap. to make it easy to reduce the cost of uumatter other wise a solar spammer would need even more solars or a auto-cobblegen(also laggy) but if you replace the auto cobble gen with a geogen that spits out waste cobble and EU some solar spammers may cut back cause their scrap source is supplementing their power.

if I remember correctly from my lurking days the main argument against snow and dust covering solars was that it made them no longer fire and forget perhaps has compromise solars should generate cobwebs(from just sitting there and being forgotten) some solar spammers will accept the idea for the free string and others will abandon solar due to ugliness.

AFAIK one of the reasons people spam solars is to run mass fabs. so another idea is to have have geothermals and nuclear reactors generate more scrap-able waste (cobble, gravel, and dirt randomly for geothermal, and irradiated cells for nuclear reactors) to make these sources of power more enticing. EDIT: or just "spent scrap cells" for both of them.

perhaps the density should make it piston proof as some sort of anti-griefer measure for reactors? (though I've never heard of griefers comprising reactors with pistons when they can just fill it with uranium)

you said no CASUC(Continuously Applied Single Use Coolants)
this is just SUC all of the ice you are going to use for the duration of the cycle is in the reactor already
I had another quick and dirty design with no SUC but you would need to build and cycle over 180 of them to fill the cooldown requirement.

Talonius putting depleted cells in reactors shouldnt have a effect on the efficiency. Too many nubs are falling for this thinking they made some godlike 5 efficiency reactor since they dont understand how breeding works. It should be separated in reactor efficiency (amount of eu per uranium cell divided by 2) and breeder efficiency (amount of cells recharged at the cost of 1 uranium cell).

in my defense I knew that it wasn't really that efficient I was trying to make a joke considering the challenge I designed it for was impossible.
