Just a quick question on somewhat OP reactors: is it correct that a nuclear reactor can only output 2048 EU/t no matter how high the generation indicated in the gui?

I might be wrong but it could probably do 2048 Per Reactor Hull Block, try connecting Cables to the other Reactor Blocks too, maybe it helps.

nope, not working - still 2048 eu out on the eu reader

then you might need to make it a Steam based Reactor, those can output higher amounts, but are also more complex to set up.

A reactor can output as much energy as it produces. If it doesn't for you, can you send us a screenshot of your setup and the version of IC2 you're using?
