Also, just found out that redstone torch >>> splitter cable also doesn't work - except the torch is under the cable. bug or intended?

I place Redstone dust such that it replaces the airblock next to the cable. That is the only thing that has worked for me. Then again, I am using an old version.
Just use jacketed redwire for now, I believe they should work.
