Tesla Tower (Wireless Recharge when nearby)

  • Suggestion: Tesla Tower Device


    Using Tesla Coils and MFEs/MFSUs to create an area around the device that will passively recharge your tools and armor if certain conditions are met such as;

    • When wearing a Tesla Helmet near a Tesla Tower, all(?) of your equipped armor and the currently selected hotbar tool will recharge at X EU/t.
    • When holding a Tesla Conductor in your hand (selected in hotbar) near a Tesla Tower all of your equipped armor will recharge at X EU/t.
    • Or simply when near a Tesla Tower, your tools and armor will recharge at X EU/t.


    The charge speed could be done in tiers, with a basic Tesla Tower recharging at 8-32 EU/t, an Advanced Tesla Tower recharging at 64-128 EU/t, and the most Complex Tesla Tower recharging at 192-256 EU/t.


    They would work using one of the 3 previously mentioned methods in a sphere or cube around them, preferably big enough to encompass a moderate section of a large home or complex. This would penetrate walls (as Tesla Coils do) but will not function below a certain depth (due to the tower's need to affect the atmosphere to actually work, could be limited to entirely above sea-level).

    It could also be implemented similarly to Nuclear reactors where different blocks are attached to it to increase the power output, but for the Tesla Tower this would increase the range, power draw, and/or charge rate.

    Again, these are obviously just rough drafts of possible recipes and whether you like or dislike this suggestion shouldn't be affected by them, as they are merely examples.


    Uses:
    The main uses would be to keep your gear charged while you did your day-to-day activities such as tending the garden, harvesting trees, or butchering pigs so that you can bank your wheat, meat and logs and go straight back to your cavernous mine hole. It would also serve to keep tools and things that aid movement like the Electrical Jetpack charged while building giving you more freedom of movement (again, ONLY when close to your Tesla Tower) without having to worry about your boots or pants or jetpack running out of power. The 'OP-ness' would be mitigated by the need to wear a Tesla Helmet (thus preventing you from being able to recharge helmets with the Tesla Tower) or a hand-held Tesla Conductor in order for your gear to charge. There would also be no real indicator of whether or not you are in your Tesla field unless you were to mark it yourself, making it still somewhat dangerous if you're using it to fly or jump around with Quantum boots.


    The power draw should be immense, at least double the effective charge rate to your gear, times the number of people in the field who are also being charged. So if you had a base with several people in it all using a power or needing to be recharged you would essentially require a Nuclear reactor in order to keep all of your bits and bobs charged. However one person should be able to get away with an HV Solar Array or similar power source (512 EU/t).


    Obligatory Final Section:
    I'm fully aware this idea may be poopoo'd into Oblivion as 'just another wireless energy suggestion', but in my opinion it would add another depth to gameplay and base design and planning. I feel this would be a good addition to an already great mod. :)

    This is as much a suggestion for IC2 as it is a suggestion for some intrepid modder who likes this idea and wants to make an awesome add-on. If one comes of this, I still call it a win! I know that wireless EU transfer methods have come up in the past, but there's no reason not to at least make a post and see if anyone bites. :)


    Tesla Coils are really cool, I'd just like to see a little more done with them.

    Do you know ChargingPads, Charging Bench and Gregtech? This AddOns all have a fast Way to Charge your stuff. Maybe you should look at them first, before spending so much afford on a suggestion.

    this is already addon implemented, you may implement multiblock version via addon yourself if you want, but be aware of chunkloading issues.


    personally expect charge and discharge in vanilla IC2 with military addon, it will be fun to lure enemy into discharge area.
