Transformers? Do you mean the engines or the actual blocks? If you mean the engines, then no. You can upgrade them, but to another tier of it. Like, you to make a higher tier of an engine, you need the lower tier of it. HV needs MV, MV need LV, and LV is a different recipe. All of the block recipes will end up like this.

how about like the charge pads? two recipes for upper level engines, one with the previous level engine and one without. or like the iron chest mod, upgrade items that could upgrade the engines in place?
