I guess FC is upset because he thinks I'm "slandering" him on other forums. That really sounds like someone who doesn't care what others think of him.

From the home office in Jackass Flats, Nevada...

TOP 10 REJECTED TITLES FOR BTW/BTBC:

    10) Better Than an Icepick in the Eye
    9) Better Than Ezra
8 ) Better Than an Allegedly Intentional Grammatical Error
    7) Better Than Minecraft
    6) Better Than Forge
    5) Better Than You
    4) Better Than Revenge
    3) Better Than I Know Myself
    2) Better Than Your Honor Student

and the Number One rejected title:

    1) Better Than Having to Listen to FC Stroke Himself Before His Adoring Legions. 8o

The amusing thing is, for someone who claims not to care what people think of him or his mod, he sure is pretty sensitive to criticism and quick to take offense to the slightest thing.
It's almost like he doesn't want to be liked - in which case, he's doing a bang-up job of it.

I think maybe he asked SpaceToad for help because he realized that his decision meant people would choose BuildCraft over BTW. The way he responded to a post that weas intended to be complimentary has cemented my decision not to use any mod he's involved in.

My wife told me about this guy she used to know... he was really good looking but as soon as he opened his mouth, forget it.
Any mod that FC makes is going to be like that - it might look good but not good enough to put up with the attitude and the behavior.

There's a lot to like about BuildCraft, and the biggest thing is that I don't need BtW to enjoy it!
I think the "balance" is only even for those using BtW only, and I don't particularly think that BC itself is imbalanced in any way.

I'm not sure why SpaceToad decided to help FC, and I wonder how long before FC alienates him, too - because it's clear that FC's "my way or the highway" attitude still stands.
I know everything I need to know about all this from the mouths of the developers themselves. Toad is cool, Elo is cool, Alblaka is cool... each of them is capable of accepting constructive criticism and even taking negative feedback with tact and grace. Only FC lacks that characteristic, so I'm unconvinced that the problem is "everyone else".

In short, any good ideas that BTBC might have are overshadowed by the "community" of fanboys and yes-men that assemble around FC.

I think this is what happened:

I went into that room and cleaned it up a bit - mined out the ores, replaced the dirt and cobble with smoothstone, raised the ceiling and put covers over the wires to the filters and deployers where possible. Then I put a door between the glass and the lava tank. It was intended to be a manual door but it is possible that the redstone current from one of the nearby wires might have affected it.

If that's the case, then it would explain why the engine may have been "on" even though the lever was off.

The other issue I've encountered is with the portal spawners. They got broken and I could not use or even replace them - in fact it made it difficult to use my portal gun at all. It seems others in that mod's thread have encountered that as well.

So I rolled back to the original world - lost a couple days' play but I should be able to reproduce the work more efficiently this time.

I have got to get into the habit of backing up my saved world each morning before playing.
I was at about the same point you were as of the end of Episode 22, when apparently I left the lava extraction engine running for too long... despite having filled the water reservoir "just in case", there was an explosion.
At first I thought it was because I had placed a door to that area, and wondered if it somehow carried a redstone signal to something else, but I can't see how that would blow something up.

I know that it takes RedPower machines to do it, so before that, there wasn't any easy way. I think that's why Pigalot created the Bucket Filler add-on before. That's still a great add-on but it's nice to see that there are ways to do it within the mods themselves, now.

It's a bad idea to modify a mod based on what other mods let you do. Balance is never achieved that way, and the success of the mod becomes tied forever after to the whims and changes of every other mod that interacts with it.

And I'm still not entirely sure how you think that a cobble gen creates energy - it doesn't - merely fodder for scrap.

Thanks for giving me something fun to watch while I was visitng family for the holidays. My mother's ancient computer cannot run Minecraft, but at least YouTube worked fine!

You've inspired me to "reboot" my Minecraft install and try some new mods, as well as downloading your world (I especially love the MassFab system with the lava fuel generation!)

Can you see anything by moonlight? Sure you can - not as much as by day, but that's still sunlight reflected off the lunar surface.
One would expect that an advanced solar panel might be able to produce a little power witrh a low level of light.

But aside from that, I agree wholeheartedly with your ideas. That's the track advanced solars should be following. Look at the solar helmet add-on. The advanced produces 9 EU/t, but it requires 9 panels to make.

Early on, it's far easier to get more iron (or copper, tin, coal, etc) than it is to find more redstone. I save my redstone, and use it only when needed in the beginning. Circuits, batteries, etc but never as fuel.
