Applied energetics is a great mod for item transport and storage.
Thermal expansion has tesseracts that teleport items, liquids and MJ energy. TE also has liquiducts hat are better than BC waterproof pipes, and Energy conduits that are better than BC power pipes.
Ender Chests are a popular choice for item teleport too.
Depending on what site your running your server on, there might be an option to tell which commands are useable by each player.
You might actually be onto something... a hoverboat, the behaviour of a boat, but faster, so far there is no mod that adds faster boats... (perhaps one i saw earlier that added several ship models)
Hoverboat... behaves like a boat, does not break, needs to be charged with EU or it wont move, and the advanced model can go trough land, Slower, maybe using the pig/horse behaviors.

And if it does get a overhaul it's likely not going to be with multiblock structures.
GT added both lightning rods, and wires/machines being destroyed by rain.

This has came up several times before, and the main reason why I've seen it not get changed is that it would take 2 more item ids.
And if you need to craft them, like you said, Applied energetics, or xycraft Fabricators work great.

I can confirm that multi farms work, and are very compact. The only downside is the apatite it requires.

After a couple of months you get used to the crappy start menu screen.

Wow I guess I read every thing but that part. And as I've stated multiple times I lack coding knowledge, so I didn't think that was possible. Well now I know, thanks.
The current system saves coordinates of the blocks, while an ID code does not. If a coordinate is known to the system then the chunk the teleported is in can be loaded, since the ID doesn't have coordinates it requires a chunk loader. Thus a ID system will not be implemented.
That's BC side, not ours.
