Humm.. Are you sure you can compress coal chunks in a GT world? That would be with the config / crafts changed than.

Anywyas, yes, we can do that even on GT world, unchanged configs.
The recipes are hidden on the shaped crafting (only the one using obsidian shows up), but they show in the assembler tab.
After hours of testing I see that I fucked up in a pretty big way here. I was calculating requirements based on the input of recipes rather than the output. As a result I calculated needing 110 machines rather than 258. My 64x electrolyzer array (which I've built twice now) doesn't output nearly enough hydrogen. I've updated the spreadsheet.
I'm working on the reactor materials, but already made those calculations. I'm not crazy enough to make it all those machines to keep the reactor going on.
Do you have any mod to auto craft parts and machines?
There isn't an easy way to distribute 1L of uu-amplifier to each mass fabricator, there is?
I think I will have to make one amplifabricator to each mass fabricator, and split the scrap instead...

Display MoreI started off redstone centrifuging but mining roughly 5000 ore is just unreasonable so I instead focused on making a stable energy surplus for replication.
Mass fabricator turns EU into UUM.
UUM turns into items in a replicator.
To choose which item to replicate you need to scan it into a data orb using a scanner.
UUM can be made quicker/more EU efficient when boosting a mass fab with UUAmplifier.
UUAmplifier is made with scrap in a amplifabricator.
Scrap is made in a recycler.
If you want you could go nuts with ratios to keep everything fed properly but I just made a set of MV machines and let it run for about 300 hours (it's only about 40 in so far).
Yes, Seems boring to mine that amount of Redstone. I looked at the Chromite, didn't knew it was deactivated.
I already have replicated the osmium needed by the Fusion reactor, so will start with the Chrome for now. It uses about 1/4 of the uum matter, still, 1024 is a lot. Seems that would take 597 hours to produce the UUM Matter (using amplifabricators) all this.
I'm thinking about make 4 or 8 mass fabricators, the only problem would be scrap to feed all the amplifab. Will need a bigger farm...

That's what I did and I found that it was actually enough for a 10% hit in EU output. That's pretty significant.
What I noticed, is that, the tank with the regulator is updated more frequently than the tank with the pipes.
I had the impression that Greg pipes output about 2 times per second, while the regulated tank keep the marker running.
An easy (maybe) way to fix it (I think), and make regulators less relevant, would be to make the turbines check and consume fuel each second, instead each tick.
So, a tungstensteel turbine will check the hatches each second for 20000L of steam and consume it, instead 1000L each tick.
That would make it way more intuitive.
Well, seems that pipes really transfer they full capacity, as described on the tooltip.
I made a test with two Huge Bronze Pipes (9600mb/sec, with shutters) attached to a Quantum tank, and a fluid regulator set a 480mb/T (9600mb/sec) attached to another Quantum Tank.
Both tanks had shutters and machine controllers, set to be open by the same lever.
On the first test, I activated the lever, and after a few seconds, deactivated.
Result: both tanks had the exactly same amount.
On a second test, I let it running for 60 seconds.
Result: the piped tank had 576,000L, which is exactly the listed pipe capacity: 9600L/sec.
The regulated tank had 578,400L, equal to 482mb/t ( or 480mb/t for 1205 ticks, which means that I took 60,25 seconds to close the valve).
This means that, while their medium output is about the same, there's a little difference on the frequency that they output.
I don't know if it's enough to affect the turbine functioning, but if I have time tomorrow, I might set two turbines to measure their total output (I probably will).

But I think I'll start to use regulators as you say, it's easier and simpler.
I do really like everything about GT Pipes, their recipe makes sense, they have a good capacity per tier, a nice design, the covers possibilities, etc... Their only problem is that backflow thing, and that output information, that I still don't am sure if is half or full.
Good thing a Large Tungstensteel boiler output matches a Huge tungstensteel Turbine optimal flow.
As soon I make one, I 'll put them together, and problem is over.

I found and EnderIO (weak, kinda cheap but configurable), Mekanism (Cheap and OP), BC (extremely weak);
Maybe I'll go with Mekanism, because It don't requires any machines, and I don't want to start in another mod tech tree now...
I haven't confirmed that maxed setup but I can confirm that a single huge titanium fluid pipe can handle 20 B/s which is more than half of its rated throughput.

I think the pipe flows are relatively balanced as they are now but my only qualm is that for really high end designs the upper limit per pipe is somewhat... limiting.
Maxing the output hatches on an LHE (5 I believe) and using all huge tungstensteel pipes (48 B/s) results in a max throughput of 240 B/s (wowzers). A 2 B/s lava LHE as it behaves now (which may be wrong) outputs 160 B/s of SHS. It's still possible to get all of the steam out but it requires 5 of the highest tier pipes. This isn't really an issue and requires high builds to have high end costs (and induce pipe routing nightmares).
Did you confirm that? Tungstensteel pipes have 48 B/s capacity, but, as Spwnx said, they empty only half of their capacity to next container, what means that they actually transport 24B/S.
If that's really true, you would need 10 of those pipes. That's why I think they are way too expensives...
I gotta imagine the tank of a pipe is twice the size as its listed throughput. Greg's not stupid :p
I would think that too, but the Scanner also shows exactly as it's listed. I am inclined to think that this was a mistake, or something that he really intended, and might have explained long ago, and, I at least I didn't saw or remember.
He might had hidden that from the scanner as well, but wouldn't explain why my scanner sometimes reads a Huge stainless pipe at 28800/14400 capacity.
That would explain why sometimes I scan pipes and they show half tank.
Would be a way to avoid exactly what I described? Instead having a hidden buffer, they work at half listed efficiency capacity?
If so, I will have to double my pipes. At least, would explain why my turbine seems to have such a low output...
Also, if what Spwnx said it true, Blood could consider to double the actual pipes capacity.
A Large Steel Boiler produces 1200L/T steam, while a Huge steel pipe only can transport 480l/t ( (19200/20 ) /2).
It would be needed 2 Steel Huge pipes and 1 Normal Steel Pipe one to keep with it, without loses. That's pretty expensive...

I'd be more curious what happens if the pipes work "as intended", ie no shutters and relying only on computed pressure over time.
Honestly, the turbine has a neat mechanic where it obeys a sort of momentum: the output can't jump all over the place, it graduates up and down as fluid input changes. Given that, I would imagine GT pipes should do "OK" no matter what.
I know that shuttering every segment should make it work, but I have "that" feeling, y'know? And yes, I would love if Greg pipes worked under pressure after it gets full.
I assume that each tick, it tries to empty it's content to next container available. I just have no idea on which order this is done.
I mean, if first segment tries to output to second segment, but that one didn't tried to output to the third yet, then it would have to wait; After that, seconds outputs to third. But, as first segment already tried to output to second this tick, it will just wait, while second will remain empty?
And does my question made sense to you?

Well, I didn't thought about how many, I assume if it it works with 2 or 3, it will work with 10 or 20, the number of pipes shouldn't affect the result. In any case, I think 10 is a good number;
About shutters, every pipe needs one, except the last one (if you are using the "Allow output only" config). It's a pain, but is what we have...
I would be extra grateful, if you test with one and two input hatches.
Ah, and thanks too, for the info about how the 125% optimal flow works. I was wasting steam and producing less EU, It seems...
I think the nichrome multi smelter is.
As Willis said, and if my math is right (usually not), a Multi smelter with a Nichrome coil and a LV energy hatch should cook 18 bamboo at time, using 12 eu/T for 512 ticks (25,6 seconds). Total of 6144 EU, about 341,3 EU p/ item.
If I hadn't a Infernal Furnace, I would build one of those for me...
