Perhaps I am misunderstanding or not seeing something, but my understanding is MagicLauncher injects the files (which is what I'm assuming you're referring to as "Magic launcher [letting] me do this directly".). As such, the below photo shows exactly that - Magic Launcher is set up to inject the majority of the mods except for some NEI modules that were finnicky. Maybe I'm missing some "Install these files directly to minecraft.jar" button, but I believe I'm set up correctly as literally everything else works except when I try and load this mod.

Ack.. Badwrongno. IC2, Railcraft and others set to be in the jar? *WRONG* way to go about doing things there.
the *only* things that go in the jar are:
    Forge
    CodeChickenCore
    NEI
    Optifine.

everything else goes in the mods folder.

This is more of an issue for mojang if they're distributing the game itself.

Hi folks, today I was wandering around the Land of Minecraft when I pondered, is it really worth having Redpower installed alongside IC2? Could Buildcraft do better? You can vote, this could possibly be helpful somewhere ;)

Both. Redpower is better at doing some things, Buildcraft at others.
Like I can't play without buildcraft anymore, why? two reasons:
    1: Forestry
2: Logistics pipes. Automatic crafting of almost *anything* on demand. (it'll even do solar panels from raw sand and coal if you've taught it how to macerate and smelt them in the machines)

]I'd personally use empty buckets, since they won't change the heating characteristics of the reactor. Perhaps not as useful for energy generation designs (which like to be kept cool), but more for automatically refilled breeder reactors.

ah, right, that would work tons better, wasn't thinking right when I made that post or something.
though last time I built a Mk1 for auto-refilling the design I used had no empty space.

Ok, but if there are empty slots that arent supposed to be filled ever and the slots are before the slots that are supposed to be filled, the pipes will put the uranium into the slots that arent supposed to have uranium. Example:
    http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…odwa2pw69289762zi4ninooao

Now, the reactor is a piece of crap but its a good example. What happens when you pump uranium into that? It goes into slots that it shouldn't. Im not trying to prove you wrong because you are correct, I'm just proving my point.

and? stick filler stuff in there such as the plates. (forget the name off the top of my head, the first one in the list)

Where has it been said that they aren't compatible? Those 3 work flawlessly together, with out having to touch the configs.

(I think forge comes with a built in id resolver now as well. I just did a fresh install yesterday, and didn't have to touch the configs for anything. Even with mods that I know conflicted previously.)

1: it could potentially cause problems if you installed RP before the other ones. Doubtful though
2: Forge has had it for a *very* long time but it's up to the mod to enable it. Redpower is the only one that i've ever seen use it, even then it gets ran once by default. It's why I almost always stick RP2 in last in any fresh mod install.

As soon as I get my install working and I learn the basics, I'll be taking a stab at this. I have my ideas.

Could someone point me to a decent guide so that I could learn the drive basics?

how much of a "guide" are you looking for?
more info inside the spoiler tags in case you don't want it completely explained.

extremely long awaited fix, reported 7 mounth ago and only now going to be fixed (notchstyle btw).

dont disable trampling completely, just disable trampling negative effects on crops (single line of code). (trampling already in vanilla, let it be)
resistance shoud be moved to collusion power on poison-fire plants and ofc weed resistance.

Except that's what was tried twice already. the previous one it worked in SSP but not SMP and now it's just plain broken again.
Sometimes it's easier just to disable it completely.

You sure? I'm told they got people testing SMP all the time I can't see how any of them would miss test this in anyway.

Very.. only made the post after I had to replace several crops on the melon farm i've got running. (which despite being a melon farm, isn't used for food. make a great vis source for thaumcraft)

edit: also note the subject line said SSP, not SMP.
