On the bug report: I don't know really, I thought it was intended behavior, until Al corrected me. I bet it was originally supposed to only trample on walking until Notch changed wheat, because the whole agriculture system was designed back in 1.0.0. If it was really unintended behavior I missed, we all make mistakes, no need to hit me with a hammer.
On the suggestion, first time I'm being criticized for stating the truth. The enet would need to be rewritten yes, and if you want to rewrite it with your changes, go ahead, we're pretty liberal about people decompiling our code.

- Fuel: due to limitations in the vanilla furnace, any fuel with value higher than 16384 gets cut. Lava buckets have a value of 20000 on the vanilla furnace but 2000 on iron furnaces and generators.

Player couldn't update the build system to 1.2.5 due to being busy, then started a disagreement with Forge due to FML's MLMP incompatibility (already solved with a message shown on startup if MLMP is installed). That's why we are taking longer, but don't worry, we're testing the new version which should be out pretty soon.

OP: stop complaining, all those suggestion responses I did in 20 minutes weren't quickshot believe me or not.
What I meant is that the energynet would need a complete if not partial rewrite to fit in the changes proposed.

I am considering oil and fuel as iron furnace and generator fuels.

What Astrognome said, but implemented in the standard suit. Reducing projectile damage could be possible with the Forge armor hooks, along with the explosion resistance that will be added in the future.
