Is it Ok if I start my own info Website?

I wan to start something similar to the wiki but it seems that thing has not been updates since forever. Who's permission do I need to just copy the info still relevant from the wiki into this new site.
I ask because I think you need permission to alter the wiki right? Plus I am just making it more casual than really wiki like for me and my friends.

On the other hand how can I get permission to simply help with updating the wiki?

Before I embark on this route though I would like to know if there is a place that keeps information already. Like for example how to make refined iron. It seems simple but I still dont know what the new way of making it is.
