Can someone please give me a little advice on how to use the fermenter?

Insert biomass (canning machine with water + biochaff to produce it) and heat on the orange square, obtain biogas.
Biogas can be burned for EU (and for heat to self sustain the setup).Do not use electric heat generators to provide the fermenter heat, it is inefficient.

is biogas the only thing that i can produce with the fermenter?

Currently, yes.

IMO, coal-fuel should be added back, and be made in the fermenter (so it actually does other stuff) so that hydrated coal is useful again.
