The problem I see with most of the perfect breeder reactors in this thread is that they are completely dependent on water cooling to maintain equilibirium, and at the higher heat levels that breeders work best at, water evaporates rather quickly. How do you guys compensate for the possible melting of water source blocks nearby the reactor, which would naturally destabilize the system and cause a rather large explosion if left uncorrected?
A list of good reactor designs (IC² v1.103 and earlier)

Those source blocks could just as easily be 5 blocks above the reactor core and never be consumed. Not saying this to pick at the design in the above picture but merely to point out that water doesn't evaporate outside a 5x5 block area around a nuclear reactor... Unless the reactor explodes, in which case cooling is no longer a problem anyways.
And to clear up any misunderstandings from RunningHawk, running water cools just as well as source blocks. So you don't have to surround your reactor with source blocks to ensure maximum cooling.

Of course, but that would cause my reinforced stone cap of 5 blocks thick to be up even higher, moving the source block up and back to get it out of the 5³ box solves this issue. -
Try to put ice in the empty slot of the second Mk2 reactor of the original post

Well there prolly will be a perfect breeder with air cooling i guess but will be alot more expensive.
Edit: added a perfect breeder with air cooling which i designed myself. If anyone can do it better feel free to post it.

The list isnt complete yet dont be afraid to post your design if its good

I cant open that link
Edit: seems the reactor planner is offline

That design is beaten soundly by Dezuman's except in the area of time. Still, by the time you need to cool this down you should have more than enough spare power or another reactor...

2. http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.blueyonder.…001511621s1r11r A pretty famous reactor made by dezuman. Has 3 efficiency, 84,84 eu/tick average output. It produces 120 eu/tick while running but needs 70 mins to cooldown after each cycle. -
MJEvans, the link you provided to dezumans reactor is broken. It has "...." in it. Right click the link you intended to copy and select "Copy Link address" or likewise.
EDIT: And one of my designs has 113 effective EU/t but is still efficiency 2. IMHO, either you make a safe reactor or you make a CASUC/CARUC thogh.

This is my breeder. It is a perfect breeder, and even makes a bit of power! It is quite efficient. This is the compacted version of it.

hello,
attempted to create an moderate reactor some time ago, an mark II-5ED
capable of running 5 cycles at 1,8 efficiency
5 uranium cells.wel, i can do all the math or share the design.. here you go.
http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…=1k10101001511621s1r11r10if you know an simple improvement dont hesitate to tell me
edit:
added an new reactor with an 2,20 efficienty that puts out 110 EU/t
http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…=1k10101001511621s1r11r10
this is an mark II 3 EC -
hello guys,
spend some time to create an powerfull mark 2 with high efficienty.
well, after some painfull meltdowns while testing an few of these in the field, i came up with one verry nice (BUT EXPENSIVE) design. this is an fully expanded 6 chamber reactor.
reactor chamber components.
uranium 6
cool cells 23
heat dispensers 24
water buckets 1small note: this reactor MUST be fully serounded with water or you WIL get an meltdown if left unatended.
Active EU/T 140
Effective EU/T 104,19
Total EU 28 000 000max cycles 2
note: if you want to run 2 cycles the bucket of water is an must have. without you wil have to let it cool for 137 minutes. with it is 57 minutes.good luck with this baby.

The perfect breeder already in the topic has exactly the same specs.
About this one:
http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…=1k10101001511621s1r11r10The water bucket cools only 250 heat but it seems to have a huge effect here i think it thinks its a CASUC :). Anyway that uranium setup is not yet in the list so i tweaked your reactor a bit and removed the 1 eff uran cell that was just messing up the eff. Dunno if this is the best setup but its a improvement:
http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…=1k10101001511621s1r11r10About this one:

Through 2 uranium pairs seemed to be a upgrade to 1 pair uranium in terms of cost eff i havent seen a 3 uranium pair reactor that has better cost eff than a 2 uranium pair reactor. I think its impossible to do that.http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…=1k10101001511621s1r11r10
Most of the reactors in the list beat this one in both eff and cost. -
i agree that the bucket might be something that isnt right, but even without it runs throu 1 full cycle before needing to cool down.
anyway, the single eff cell is indeed an lowering of total eff, il try to tweek the design just an litle more, stand by for results
edit, i totaly agree with the new setup, however. my origonal build has the option to add just one more cell to give an extra kick. if needed.
however it comes to the price of cooldown time
-
EDIT:lolz i know knowthing
-
That was a CASUC..

Was there any rule for a reactor that cannot run infinite cycles in theory but in reality it can run so many cycles you can consider it infinite like http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…=1o10101001501521s1r11r10? It can run almost 25 cycles IF you somehow instantly refuel it without any time loss.

agreed, since that cooldown time is so low. it is vertialy imposible to replace the fuel cells that fast.
also, you can use an CASUC system to remove nearly depleted cells, and replace them with full. just like the cool system but only then with fuel cells, (that is what i did)
