Also in this case chainsaw doesn't use any energy.

Leaves of normal trees or hand-punching rubber leaves are ok.

Are you far enough away from spawn that you can place blocks?

I can confirm this in SMP. Doesn't matter where you are, but it works fine on all other leaves (Including RP rubber trees). It's only the IC2 rubber trees that seem to be effected.

I completely forgot to report it. Oops!

This doesn't appear to happen on SMP as of 1.43. I can harvest all the leaves off rubber trees, and they drop saplings and do not come back.
