First attempt at nuclear reactor design (thoughts, comments, criticism welcome) Mk I-O EE

  • I decided to have a go playing with the reactor planner and I think I came up with something halfway-decent.

    Here's the design.

    Statistics:

110 EU/t, constant running, equal cooling and heating, 1.00 efficiency. Kind of expensive, I think, but, hey.

    Thoughts?

  • Hmm, good point about the efficiency. I've been stripmining with auto-miners and I still don't exactly have a huge amount of uranium.

How's about this instead? Efficiency of 3.13. Quadruples the EU/t too...

  • That's an awful lot of resources for a 1 eff reactor. Try this:

Still runs forever, much more efficient, takes way less resources (though the first version I built used a lot more IHDs because I didn't really "get" how exactly they worked).

Of course a properly built Mk2 can add just 1 more uranium and get more than double the EU (24m vs. 10m) while having a cooldown time of ~70 minutes. Just take an OV scanner and a fully charged lappack (you hooked an MFSU to your reactor, right?) and go hunting for more uranium/diamonds while you wait.

  • Problem with your first reactor is that it is very inefficient. If you want to keep relatively high output, i suggest one of theese designs :
    http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…10101001511f21s1r14lflr10
    http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…10101001511f21s1r14lflr10
    http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…1k101010037ps011111101110
Last one has only 84.87 eff EU/t, but is most effective of all 3. So if you prefer high output, it's probably the best for you to choose one of the first two reactors.

Your second reactor is better, but requires 2 ice block every 5 seconds to not melt. If you can provide enough ice, it's powerful and efficient reactor. I suggest to never leave "solo" U-cells in your design.
It would look like this: http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…k=1k101010010115101001010

Without 2 ice blocks every 5 seconds, you would get this: http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…c=1k101010010015101001010
After 9 minutes it needs 28 minutes to cool down, which drastically reduces effective output. Without redstone wring, effective output is reduced even more.

    Hope it helps.

It got 47,59 eu/tick average thats less not more!!

Also the uranium setup isnt very good like that. You are losing alot of efficiency like that. Go for something like this:
    http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…c=1k101010010115101001010
    460 eu/tick output
    59.91 eu/tick average
    3,83 eff

Just remember this aint a mk1 or mk2 and you will need redstone to stop it from blowing up.

A question on this reactor: if I were to set up a CASUC system using the last slot, and fed it ice to keep it at heat 0 (so as to avoid the rather lengthy cooldown period), how much ice would it need? The calculator cannot go below 1 block per second, but it's pretty obvious that this generator generates less heat per second than a single ice block consumes.

And what would be the total required amount of ice be? I'd rather avoid golem farms, and have a pre-stocked amount of snowballs for every full cycle.

It generates about 30 heat every second. It means you are going to need one ice block every 10 seconds. Cycle has 10000 seconds, which means you would need 1000 blocks (about 15.5 stacks).

  • if you were to go CASUC i suggest not to use such an design, go with something like this:

it is 4,33 eff which is about the best there is, and an EXTREMELY high EU/Tick output.

this can fill up and MFSU in an verry verry short amount of time, run this for an few minutes and you have power for an day of minecraft. 24 hours easy.
say it, isnt that effective uranium usage?

    right, time to get serious...
i wil be offline for weeks and possibly months at an time. if you have anything to add to an post i made, and would like me to know. you are welcome to pm me, and i wil reply as soon as i am able to do so.
