Wouldn't be nice if you were flying in your MoveCraft (or similar) ship and was about to be attacked by another player in his ship and you had a field generator that covered your entire ship instead of just part of it. I would suggest that you could either make the normal field generator compatible with those around it or create an advanced field generator. Making it compatible would be like using the PStone protection block. When you power generators that overlap instead of having parts where both generators have parts blocked off inside the field make them just combine at that point and stop there. It would make it easier to protect a larger area and still allow movement through the entire area.

Unfortunately movecraft is a craftbukkit plugin, and as such, not useable to everyone, unless an actual movecraft mod would be made for MCF..

Forget movecraft, it's all about blakmajik's zeppelin now. That's got the greatest potential for having IC stuff work on a moving ship. Right now the stuff can move but doesn't work while the ship is moving. But when you stop and join the world again stuff works again. But blakmajik is making improvements all the time, very regular updates. But an IC ship would kick ass. Force field generators on a ship would just be epic.

Ok but the point still remains about attaching force fields together to protect a larger compound. Thats what you need to take away from this, not so much where they want to implement it. It could still have multiple uses.

Like guarding a massive construction project, or city, from creepers and other dangerous-to-building mobs.

I was thinking the same. A 65*65*65 square shield would be too small, especially for some SMP constructions/cities, so to have the possibility too combine several shields would be very great.
For example the freq trans might have the hability to change the frequency of field generators. The shields produced by field generators with the same frequency could then combine into a bigger one. Considering energy this system would make one big shield more rentable than several little ones due to the cost of the shield generator itself. Because if you are able to power several small shields you are able too power a big one of the same surface.
But a good point of it would be the optimization of the protected surface due to the shape created by the position of field generators.
Also the texture of the shield could be better : for example a succession of coloured (transparent orange or light blue) panels with an extending brighter color when touched in an area.
