I dunno. IC2 might use entirely new code, and it may not have been coded as they couldn't think of a way, at the time, that wasn't poor, code wise?

It was far to buggy and to CPU intensive to go with the new code quality of IC².
We're intending to implement the ForceField Addon, but given it's not a trivial addon, somebody needs to spend some time on properly merging the code. Time noone currently has ^^'
