[Idea] Generate power from player footsteps

  • I've seen this applied in the real world, but i forget the proper name for it. Basically, in the real world buildings are being designed that can generate electricity when people walk over the specialised flooring.


    I suppose this would be OP perhaps in a multiplayer setting, so you could code into it that it will only generate say 20 eu each time someone stands on it, and you can only stand on it once every 2 minutes or so.


    I imagine that it would have to be hard coded for players only, as i can potentially see people luring a bunch of animals into an area filled with the generator plates.

    The term you might be looking for is KERS


    Kenetic Energy Recovery System.


    It covers a wide range of devices designed to capture kenetic energy and transform it into potential energy.


    From regenerative braking in cars, to small sandwiched materials that generate a charge when pressure is applied ( like in a shoe or a floorplate) To devices that generate a charge through motion ( like a pedometer but with energy instead of counting steps)


    This has also been done in IC2 with the static boots, but that's with equipment not a floor block which is different but not by much.

    Detecting all the mobs footsteps, I don't know. Could that cause some lagging issues?


    Anyway, cool idea, but I'm not sure about the gameplay value.

    Block detect if there is a valid entity above every X ticks, if YES generate Y EU/t ?

  • Not really much point when you have the static boots already. Why have power gen for walking in a certain place when you can have power by walking anywhere?
