A invisibility potion effect is already made by Mojang. Have patience, it may come out in 1.3.
According to Jeb's twitter, 1.3 will hopefully come out the 4. august. -
I like this idea, but as stated above, it would be hard to code. Another worthy exception to the 20+ posts for suggestions rule.
It wouldn't be hard to code, your just stopping the player render code really.
