[OFFICIAL] List of good reactor designs

  • This design is just an alternative, not cheaper for everyone, just depends on what resources individuals think is worth more (iron vs some other stuff).

Making designs more and more efficient is what we are here for. And the small tricks, like using reactor heat exchangers to fill gaps between component heat vents or using coolant cells to reach another component heat vent could probably be applied to more designs, so there is more work to do.

  • im in need of some help im trying to find a reactor set up that can run a full cycle with out any need of buildcraft or redpower. i used to have a set up where i could turn it on and leave it no risk of overload but now in the current state of ic2 it doesnt work. also i lost the set up of it i have been using gregtech's ingame reactor planner but no luck yet any suggestions?

  • Maybe the OP could place spoiler tags with info and links to alternate designs. (So it won't get so crowded)

    Hmm that was weird :/

    I'll think of one later.

One of these days I will remember to edit everything I want to BEFORE I click submit.

  • Time to try some Designs ^^ (yeah... were to lazy before, just picked from the List :) )

One thing to consider when designing is the running cost. The front page efficiency of your design is 5, but jump to the resources need page you should see a 27UU running cost. Which in this design costs 50% of your potential output to replace the reflectors and make a double cell each cycle. Dropping real efficiency to 2.5. At that point you could have just run 4-6 single cells and gotten more power and net efficiency (3+).

  • well yes it will cost you much Copper,
it is still a good design for quick, easy, cheap energy

the running cost are just for the people who will run their reactor indefinitly and there for looking at the copper cost as an important factor.
you dont have to use UUM for the Modules...

also you can use Gregtechs Reflektor for no running cost except the uranium cells

Change the scheme, alter the mood. Electrify the boys and girls if you'd be so kind.

  • Sure, it costs Copper per Cycle... but comparing every lost Resource with UU-Matter... lets talk about that, when you mined out your World :P (30mio. in every Direction, not?)

No, it's really not a "good design for quick, easy, cheap energy". Any design that uses Neutron Reflectors should never be classified as "quick, easy, cheap" in my opinion... especially considering the fact that in that above design, you must replace those Neutron Reflectors TWICE... EACH. So that's 6 Neutron Reflectors for a single run. Manual part replacement during a run isn't "easy". Automating it can be done, but again that shouldn't be under the "easy" nor "quick" category.

And recommending using the Gregtech Iridium Reflector? Have you tried making one? With Gregtech, making Iridium anything is about as far from "quick, easy, cheap" as you can get.

These designs are what I would call "quick, easy, cheap". They are all 0 chamber designs and use single cells. They've been posted throughout the thread, and some are in the first post.

Output 7mil EU, 35 EU/t, 2.33 Eff Close to above but Hybrid Breeder which will breed same number of single cells used. When Breeding is done like this, it's very cheap and easy.

  • Sorry if it's a newb question, but what does UU mean in the Running costs?

  • So you mean that after a full cycle the Quad Uranium cells will turn into Double ones? (Sorry for these dumb questions but i am a noob with nuclear reactors and yeah...)
