One of the things i hate with this laser is the Scatter-Shot.
its way to powerfull, i mean...you can destroy mountains with this shot.
i would suggest to replace this mode with a weapon mode, so far many players are using the Long Range Mode as weapon.
The weapon mode could have the range and damage from Long Range, but without the block-breaking ability.

Mining Lasers are not intended to be used as a weapon. Although it can function like one.
No weapon modes. At least not until the famous industrial conflict "expansion"/"update" comes true. -

(i'm lurking theese forums on a daily basis, even if i don't post)Yeah, you almost always have to use it if you want to complete the "Like a Boss" achievement. However without GraviSuite, you'll probably have to bring 10 lappacks or something.
Of course GregTech Lapotron-packs also work well...

Or just remove/retool scatter shot
As it sets the scattershot is a greiving wet dream. All the destructive capability of TNT without the total destruction that it gives. Leaving a good 1/3 of the destroyed area left behind for someone to clean up.
