Believe it or not, modding is extremely easy nowadays (compared to when I first started in Beta 1.8.1), and there are plenty of packs outside FTB and Tekkit.

Modpacks are built for the not-so-tech-savvy (Which is definitely not the majority. For example, I would put the number of people playing their own packs on the FTB forum as around 60%.) and the lazy people.

Mod distribution in law is a grey, controversial area. However, it is always a mark of respect (which any community needs) to ask for permission before adding it to the modpack. For example, if your neighbour doesn't want you to crawl over to his lawn and dig holes, but it is not explicitly allowed or disallowed by law, would you still crawl over to his lawn and dig holes?

Temporarily machine overvoltage explosions will not exist, since 2.0.303.

The system was intended to prevent confusion amongst newcomers I believe, who didn't know about the multiple packets per cable thing.

The current system also discourages (geothermal) generator spam and encourages more time spent on wiring design (which I don't know is a bad or good thing) because things are no longer "plug and play".

i think that gregtech needs a way to mine ores automatically, but i want something that doesnt have to be set up again and again by hand... i really liked the rp2 tunnel bore thingies but its outdated and now i have to get anternative... a laser cutter is a good idea, but i wont like to use 2 lasers for it, i would like to have both connected so left click silk touches and rightclick shoots lasers id also like to have new laser modes like attack mode that doesnt destroy and blocks.. oh yeah and please add sone kind of marble to replace the rp2 ones... next thing: more mobs i would really like to fight some new mobs maybe some of them which are designed to keep me indoor at night... MinecraftGhast maybe even mobs that drain voltage XD

Automining is not planned and will not be coming soon, especially silk-touch automining (which is denied and will never be implemented in the forseeable future).

Entities are planned and will probably come "after Stargates" aka Soon (TM).

Except that by the time you have an anvil, you're generally not using hammers and cutters anymore because you can also afford a metalformer.

    Good point.

Then again, I forsee no use for reparing hammers and cutters. I think 80 plates is more than enough for a metal former, even on SMP. Same for cables.

Another simple idea: I noticed I cannot repair forge hammer and cutter with normal Minecraft way by crafting 2 used tool together (same tools, of course). It would be useful if it can be done because it's natural in MC, and I think most player will find this possibility. Of course it not means Forge Hammers can be repaired with Force Hammer, or other variation because these are two different tool, as I cannot repair a stone pickaxe with a diamond one, even if I want to do that.

Notch repair is actually called repar.

I think it would make more sense to repair with anvil instead of smashing two hammers together.

I think there is a communication disconnect...

Say I've got a reactor outputting something like 8k EU/t. I've got enough stuff running where I actually need that kind of output. However, I'm only going to be able to get 2048 EU/t through my transformer, and it's going to fry anything else. So basically, I've just throttled my potential 8k output down to a quarter of that. 6k EU/t just got completely wasted just so the energy can interact with my machines.

I was talking about Tower of Power MOX reactor builds with theoretical outputs around 20k. Completely impossible now, due to the revamp. Nothing can handle that much power output in the line, regardless of how many sources provide it, and stepping it down just truncates the power output.

Instead of running all your machines on one line, like in IC² classic, run 4 separate lines of machines, each with its own EVT.
