Yeah the overclockers are end game fun I feel. At low levels meh couple help but still a big drain if you are not jumping into something like geothermal. Not sure if you guys noticed but base machines seem to have also been nerfed a lot. That damn macerator is screaming a forced OC module. It's not even bearable lol.

Base Machines were nerfed by 30%, actually.

You can whine all day long about how expensive overclockers are, but for a nice midway balance of speed and power consumption, they are GREAT.

FYI it's not so much overclockers being expensive as it is Adv. Machines being way OP...

So the design aspect for the machines is either:
    A. Require a ton of power to get reasonable speed machines.
    Or
    B. Require a large amount of machines

As Advanced Machines did come before (to the public, mind you) overclockers, wouldn't that make the overclockers underpowered (for the public), instead?

So many people are used to this mod already, and like the design aspect of 'Oh, upgraded machine! Sweet!' that they don't want to change.
And then there is more people who don't like the 'Mini-Reactor' design of the new upgrades.

There is a large divide between people who like the new system, and like Adv. Machines. - It's quite the divide, actually.
(Hope I'm within civil, and out of Al's Industrial Banhammer, range.)

Edit: Personally, I see the overclockers are rather cheap (cost wise)- I just don't like the concept of the upgrades. I'm also in total disagreement with Al on the Induction Furnace- But that's slightly irrelevant.

9 Overclockers causes so much energy consumption it's insane. This is probably the only (addition to IC2) mod I can't live without.

I havent tried it yet tbh. My server is still on 1.0 for obvious reasons :p Tbh I'd be happy with an advanced recycler and the rest of the upgrades are meh.

That's the only machine I don't mind the upgrade system for. It would take a lot of overclocking to remove the benefit of making scraps for a Mass Fabricator. The 'Mass Recycler' that was on the forums seemed alright, but I don't know exactly how well it worked.

Have you guys considered using mods like buildcraft or red power in conjunction with these? Red power especially can pull multiples of materials out of machines with ease. My server base has setups which transfer materials in stacks of 16 without hassle or lag. Buildcraft can also do similar. The redstone engine can only take 1 item at a time from machines, but the steam engine can do 10 and the combustion can do 64. Should easily suffice for your needs.

    :3

I just don't like the new upgrade system.

Just put 16 overclockers in it. It'll drain a good amount of power, but it'll macerate ~10 ores per second. So you wait like 4 seconds, click click, 4 seconds, click click. Done.

Not very helpful for an automated system- Which is the main reason I like this mod (Pre-Solar Arrays... But they're almost like a whole mod in themselves). Also, using 16 overclockers uses an amazing large amount of EUs.

I'll compare the implementation of the new upgrades system to Notch's enchanting system. Great idea... Poor implementation.

    In my opinion.

Edit: I also tend to go mine hundreds, and sometimes thousands of ores (Just ores, not counting cobblestone, dirt, or gravel) before I start macerating. So the 40 ore at a time with a wait in between is not an option.

I never use HV. For me, I find making glass fiber is better, HV cabling is actually hecka expensive. It takes 3 rubber per block. Which is 1 sticky resin per block. If you decide to go 3000 blocks, that's a LOT of rubber. 9000 rubber, or 500 diamonds?

I'd spend OVER 9000 rubber, instead of 500 diamonds, personally.

With EE, I'd use the diamonds... but Rubber is renewable- Very renewable.

    And EV, right?

Isnt Extreme voltage Anything above 512 eu/t anyway?

It's technically 512-2048, but because of people making CASUC Reactor designs, you could actually surpass the cap. Temp fix for this was to allow EV cable to hold stuff over 2048.

And what would be the joke of Extreme voltage with your alternator? Its only application its only for energy transport over large distances, your alternator would simply make this voltage useless.

(And 90% of the people can agree the if you have IC2, you usually also have RP2 or BC because of the powerful synergy between these mods)
    Also: Logic!

Er- You can make a reactor generate ABOVE Extreme Voltage. Using RP2/BC, of course. So, one of two applications. :)

I do not intend to add Induction-Machines to IC.
The reasoning behind this is, "smelting" is the most basic MC operation next to crafting.
Macerating, extracting, etc are complex operations. Tech wise, Induction Furnaces are a fine thing, speeding up the simple process.
Complex stuff shouldn't be sped up like that.

So Extractors, Compressors, and Macerators shouldn't be able to have upgrades like the electric furnace, then?
Or, should suffer higher EU costs, and chances to explode when used, due to being more complex?

I'm just slightly confused as to how your opinion works on this.

    My only thought was...

What DON'T you use the Mining Laser Explosion Mode for?

You can actually use it for mining quite well- I don't know the Diamonds/Hour, but it's alright. (Better if you stop before blowing the diamonds up and mine them normally.)

Also the Glowstone trick is sweet. The lost Glowstone is well worth the saved time and lack of needing to pillar up.

There is already a low loss when you transport power over long distances. Just use glassfiber and you can transport power far out of chunk load range.

Once you're far enough in the game, you can have 39 Glass Fibre cables, followed by an MFE, then repeat.

This somewhat helps with chunks unloading, and (if I'm right) causes no EU loss, period.

Just costs a lot of diamonds.

OP wanted cloaking, not draining. Draining was the side effect of cloaking. Cloaking being, going invisible.

Oh, so he wants the Quantum Suit to have everything it does currently, and have the ability to go invisible for two minutes?

Could be a suggestion for other armor, but does the Quantum Suit really need anything else?

I could see a suggestion of a block that, when right clicks, grabs your entire Quantum Suit/Lappack and charge all of it simultaneously. (Like the charging bech add-on, but faster and for Quantum Armor/Lappack only.) Then Right click it to get it re-equipped.

But... for what reason would one want to drain a Quantum Suit? PVP Servers? If so, wait for Al's PVP IC2 Expansion Pack. (Of the name I can't remember.)

More balanced? Have you seen the Mk. 3 collector? that and a item maker chest (forgot it's name) == cheat mode. Might as well be using TMI or NEI.
horribly unbalanced. Hell, even a 1 or 2 mk. 1's and that chest is bad.

Not to continue, or start anything again...

EE Collector is just an advanced Solar Panel.

EE Collector + Condenser = Solar Panel + Mass Fabricator

Sure, the rate at which they get things is different, but it's bad to mock one mod for something that the mod you are currently using has as well.
