He referred to batch files he wrote himself.
Actually it's not THAT hard to rename folders and call the right minecraft.exe...

Duh, knew exactly what he was talking about. I did the same exact thing when I found this trick way back when. Hence the comment about not trusting other launchers.

    Code
    set APPDATA=%cd%\a_modded
    start javaw -Xms1024M -Xmx2048M -jar Minecraft.exe

Oh look.. another 1 post moron that's likely soon to be banned because "he" can't read the freaking rules.
aka: Forge only recently came out *and* it's still likely very buggy. If you had bothered to read anything at all you would have seen this. (it's all over the thread in the forge forums)

Single Items are not really laggy.

The GregTower2 has sometimes hundreds of single Items and small Stacks traversing through a huge Tubesystem without any Lagincrease. I was also able to decrease the Pathfinding (and increase the Overviewability), using colored Tubes and colorcoded Items in the whole System.

Similar here. in the game with Aether (1.9 pr2) I couldn't use logistics pipes so I reverted to the other way of sorting stuff. (some effort, a lot of paint cans and more effort stuffing it all behind walls) When the frame quarry really got going I had tons of stuff traveling through two different tube networks. (one on the frame head, one in my base) and didn't really get any lag.

On that note, Risugami will finally retire from updating the regular modloader isn't it? unless its still needed for MP modding? (Not that it matters since forge finally includes its own ModLoader and MLMP.)

Sadly it looks like Modloader and ModloaderMP are both still being updated, just checked and both are out for 1.3.1
As to captain ego pants doesn't work well with others due to his inflated sense of self-importance.. I won't get into that.

Well that is actually a very nice idea!

    My idea:
    Laser Gun (explosive, scattered, long-range)
    Mining Laser (horizontal, mining, low-tange)

And about heat mode I think it's useless, kinda...

That's nice, you may think it's useless but that doesn't mean everyone does. I use it all the freaking time to do the cobble to stone thing when I get a mining laser.

About the only reason i'm using Windows on my desktop and laptop are games. WINE is quite functional yes but it can also be a pain.
The Home Theater PC is also (sadly) restricted to windows due to Cable Labs and their requirement for Media Center as the only thing that obeys the copy once flag from CableCard tuners. (MythTV can also work but one won't be able to record most movies and some shows like Conan)
Now the file/general purpose server is 100% linux, this is the same box I host a minecraft server on once in a while. Hasn't seen a reboot in 121 days, unlike any of my windows machines. Course I really should update the kernel on that box sometime.

can't see your point, since you'll have to create the prototype anyway and i doubt you'll do it in your real world since prototyping something like that leaves nice holes :D
by what i see an ice CASUC should actually be much easier to frame than a bucket CASUC. to frame the "ice farm" is trivial, you don't need to worry about extracting something which saves complexity and ice stacks, which makes it much RP2 tube friendlier than buckets. i don't know about logistic pipes, but RP2 tubes would "refill" your generator on what is missing and send the rest back till some ice is missing again. you could just spam infinite amounts of ice and never lose something since RP2 tubes never drop items. the system would only "jam" if it's to much, but that just means that you have way more ice than the generator can use which stops the ice production completly till it's needed again, which one the other hand is a good thing.
if you would give me the exact machinary specifics for a 5chamber ice CASUC (number of machines, upgrades, ice slots in generator etc.) i'm pretty sure i could construct something like that in a few hours.

Doubt it'll produce a hole but right now I really just don't feel like playing minecraft, hence the waiting for 1.3.1. X2: The Threat has been sucking up all my time lately.

as to the ice farm, it's sorta ginormous given I use these to generate ice and need quite a lot of them to make enough.
Will probably end up leaving that part on the ground given I need 40+. (I kinda forget the exact number)

why wait if you could do it now? from idea to tested prototyp this thing took about a day. doing the same with an ice CASUC if you have the knowledge on what's important shouldn't be hard.

Mostly because i'm doing a world reset for 1.3.1 (so the temples and such will appear) and plan on firing up the (private*) server again now that logistics pipes has no choice but to be SMP now. That's one of the essential mods I can't play without anymore. Just like IC2 and the q-suit (helmet) here.
So yeah.. don't want to go through a bunch of effort for something that'll be going away in a few weeks.

*hosted locally at home, only for a friend or two

But seriously, this is awesome. Great job! Its not to long before someone builds a functional flying frame base (as in, they build it legitimately and actually use it as their primary base).

Plan on doing such whenever everything updates for 1.3.1 though i'm probably going to go ice CASUC, assuming frames can move BC pipes. The inital idea was to make a mini-base in the Aether but i'm not 100% sure if that's going to be included on the server. (server != public, sorry)

The MFSU can only output 512EU and a single MV-transformer can only transform 512EU into lower voltage in a single tick(both 10240EU/second limit). The MFSU can recieve more energy per second that in can output. If you want to transform more you need more MFSU's and transformers.

Nope. a single MV transformer can keep up with a MFSU just fine. 512/128 = 4. One gets 4 128 EU packets per tick coming out of the MV transformer assuming there's that kind of power draw on the other side.
It's the same way one can get 2040 EU/t out of a full 6 chamber ice CASUC with one HV transformer. Multiple packets per tick.

    WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!

Redpower is MUCH userfriendlier, than BC. The "Items do never fall out of Tubes"-Part is definetly userfriendlier, than "Spit all Items out, if there is no Space and cause massive Lag"! All the Stuff of Redpower does what it should do and nothing EXPLODES when wrong (or even when right!) used! The Logicgates are much easier to use, than the BC3-Gatethingies, and you can do EVERYTHING what BC3-Gates can do, with Redpower (except the Haswork-condition but it is Part of BC itself)!

I agree with the Documentation as the UNofficial RP-Wiki needs to be updated, and the Fact that Redpower has no Forum, but that has nothing to do with Userfriendlyness. Also Direwolf explained the RP-Stuff pretty good.

and BC machines are several times easier to build and get operational than Redpower.

-idly wonders how long it will take SSP only mods to make the jump- really thinking of Thaumcraft and logistics pipes here. I'm not certain, but were devs able to use the snapshots to get things rolling? Beyond that, it doesn't look like there was a new forge push, so I guess we have to wait for that before we can even hope for mod updates.

Vswe said it'd be a while for Steve's Carts as he's basically going to have to learn all about SMP coding for mods. Neat looking mod there but with redpower, forestry and railcraft it doesn't really do much that I could do with other mods.

I don't think that 1.4 with mod API will be anytime soon.

I saw 6 months somewhere but I forget where.
