You should be unable to mix liquids.
If it cannot "get" liquid" it should try to "put" it. So trying to mix lava and water will result with obsidian outside.

I think Golden Fence is not hard to make and cool enough to use as a decoration for rich ones.
Golden Scaffolds can be made then for some purpose aside of decoration. For example to charge your tools while you stand/walk/ascend/descend powered golden scaffold.

Simple math will show you of constant matter to energy value in this case.
I mean effectiveness would be one always.
