I think instead of Enchantments you'd use a machine that takes data from your brain (IE: Levels) and uses it to upgrade your nanosuit or tools with integrations. Just a different flavor of enchants that seems more realistic and futuristic.

So, we all know that notch will soon get us alchemy and enchanting to out minecrafts, so, how that will affect industralcraft?
Ok, so, it could be that alchemy turns into cremistry, transmutations with electrical brewing stands for example, but enchanting? Enchanted lazers?

So, how it will change, if it ever will, ofc.

Alchemy into Chemistry would be awesome, having Centrifuges and breaking down ingredients into base materials then mixing them to create potent liquids..

    Damn that sounds badass.

Nope. If anyone would actually want to get in your base, they would just break the door. However, if you used that to turn off a forcefield...

The server I play on basically we have this unwritten rule that destroying other people's stuff is not allowed, but stealing however is. If you don't protect your stuff, its your fault, but no one is going to bust in your wall to rob a chest.

    I agree.

I think Canned Food should "overfeed" you a large amount, which makes it more potent as a food object.

absolutely agree to shadowclaimer on this one, wood is one of the most basic ressources. you cant go "well, we got steel, carbon fiber, n nano lasers, who needs wood then?" cuz minecraft doesn't suddenly turn into a sci-fi movie all of a sudden, when ic2 is installed. no, its just an addition to the world. an addition that is supposed to give the players a better
taste of what the world actually has to offer. i think thats the main concept.

That and automated wood harvesting works well with BC's quarries for providing raw resources for factories =D

Hehe, keep in mind, we're mere humans as well ^^
    Now, smartassed-nerdish-coder-humans but ye.

    Trust me I understand ;)

Its just nice for once to be able to sit down and legitly discuss ideas, on larger scale programming and gaming projects input or discussion doesn't directly happen in a very close manner due to the volume of fans/production time of said item. On smaller mod projects we get access to discuss directly which in itself is nice.

harvester shoud use rocket chainsaws to harvest lumber (and everyone else in range).

basically lumber is not point of IC, its about machines, reactors, energy, not about wooden cottages.

That's a silly way to look at it, Lumber and Mining are two foundations of modern society, processing of such materials is the basis for society as a whole, and technology as well know it. Modern industry is driven by A) acquisition of resources and B) processing of said resources.

Industrialcraft is the bringing of modern technology and automation to the world of Minecraft, it is the procurement of resources and processing of said resources into modern equipment. The addition of new machines based around the acquisition and processing of lumber in no way go against the theme of IndustrialCraft as a whole.

    @BC/IC stuff on the list:
    -Support for BC's liquid pipes
-Usage of BC oil in fuel cans and for eventual other *cough* purpouses

An engine to convert EU into BC-power is already being taken on by an independant coder.

Thank you sir =) was just curious.

Its nice to have direct interaction with a developer.

The Planter/Fertilizer/Harvester combination is currently found in Minefactory (a mod that was abandoned then updated by another person to be 1.8.1 SMP compatible). Truthfully the gathering of Bonemeal to grow the trees is the hardest part of it (we're trying to find a skeleton spawner for a drowning chamber currently to automate that process). Truthfully you would end up with an infinite source without bonemeal (albeit a slow one) but it would still consume power quite ridiculously (think about Miners and how much power they consume effectively). Use a chainsaw to make Harvester, consume power everytime it cuts a log, vula.

you want 5 machines (basically one more blockid) just to make batboxes?

I want 5 machines to be able to automatically process lumber like I can with mining, I want a wood for creating batboxes, for making sticks, for making charcoal, for constructing.

The ability to grow, cut down, process, and create using machines is what industrialcraft is all about, why neglect the lumber industry? People highly underestimate how much wood they use ingame (I myself have suffered a shortage from it even with my automated tree farm using Minefactory, and I'm not even BUILDING out of Wood, just using it to make Sticks and Redstone Engines)

I currently use a Miner to harvest, a Macerator to grind, and a Furnace/Induction Furnace to smelt, why is Lumber any different?

I'm going to go ahead and note this, because the sheer amount of PMs I am getting pertaining to it.

I currently have no plans to do a 32x, 64x, 128x, or 256x version of this tileset. I am a pixel artist, not a full graphics artist, such a design would look atrocious for me. The main reason my tileset is possible to begin with is because of the fact its 16x. That and I barely have the time/motivation to do the 16x alone, nonetheless double/triple/quadruple/wtf my workload.

So for now, don't get your hopes up, I seriously don't plan on doing a higher rez version. You can enjoy it in its base 16x, because if I finish that I'd be proud to begin with.

I mean no offense or hostility, I just need to quiet the PMs.

Edit: To note, you can make a higher rez version out of my finished tileset when its done if you wish, I won't stop you. Just please give credit where credit is due and link back to this thread.

    Industrialcraft Lumber Industry Items:

    Harvester
When receiving power will cut down nearby trees automatically around it, spits out Saplings/Logs/Rubber or if a chest is placed next to them will place the stuff in a chest. Effectively a Miner for trees. Could add a scanner of some sort to increase its radius possibly.

    Planter
When powered and recieves a redstone input, will place a sapling from its storage on top of the dirt block above it.

    Fertilizer
Constantly fertilizes around it in an area using Bonemeal stashed inside, requires power and will fertilize when it receives redstone input.

    Sawmill
When logs are inserted into the device and it is powered, will turn every Log into 8 Wood. Effectively a Macerator for Wood. Could also output a second resource called Wood Pulp into a bottom slot, Wood Pulp is turned into Paper at a crafting bench.

    Pyrolysis Chamber
Turns each log into two Charcoal or Wood Pulp into one Charcoal when powered. (Carbon Fibers are made by Pyrolysis too btw)

This would allow properly automated logging systems from tree to production, allowing us to multiply our board and charcoal outputs (similar to how we can multiply our ore outputs) using modern machines. The Harvester/Fertilizer/Planter combo would allow tree farms to be created, autoharvest, and fed into Sawmills/Pyrolysis Chambers for the creation of Charcoal and Lumber for use. It would add a full new industry to Industrialcraft, one that's been relatively untouched by IC so far.

Now, she has been concentrated on redstone so far, but the CPU thingy IS bothering me to some degree.
The point is, she IS a more capable, probably better motivated, coder then me and most likely everyone else of the IC² team.
Second problem, creating overlaps is a bad idea. It's the reason i didn't implement Oil, SpaceToad didn't advance his EnergyPipes and neitehr of us did much in the regard of redstone. But now ER and IC got the idea of CPUs. Judging by the stuff on her blog, her CPU is meant to be more complex then mine, permitting actually anything a real CPU could. She's a genius in regard of boolean functions after all.

I'm currently thinking about dropping the whole CPU idea from IC and instead focus on vehicles and stuff. There's no use in wasting loads of time creating another CPU system, which would still be inferior to Eloraams one. But so far i doubt either BC or ER has plans for vehicles or other similar stuff in that regard, whereas IC (dadadadaaaaa *secret info release*) got a semi-functionally car code and model for some time now.

Probably i will build a redstone-EU-controller thingy as well as a few blocks , previously meant to be included in the CPU, as seperate blocks. We still need the reactor heat controller one.
First things first though, and these first things are advanced MCForge functionality and the mysterious CF, all within the upcoming 1.2 update.

I much prefer your CPU system truthfully, as a loyal fan I think her computer will be an optional mod (ala World/Machine) so we can skip out on it and if given the choice I'd rather have a simpler, easy to use one like yours than one that requires serious knowledge. Would rather hook up like 5 blocks and run a reactor control system than have to build a computer from blocks and manage every byte.

I fear as features expand for all three mods its only a matter of time before serious overlap begins, I enjoy seeing how you and Toad try to keep your mods from overlapping as much as possible (its something quite awesome and respectable). I think overlap with some smaller mods or "absorption" is one thing, but when big mods that are commonly used together start overlapping it gets a bit questionable.

My question Al, is will you ever implement a mini-mod that adds some BC/IC hybrid features? Power generators that feed on Oil perhaps?

Need to correct adien: Due to the fact you can't "instantly" charge tools anymore in any way, the idea of the batpack instantly charging tools after you used them once was dropped as well.
It does instead refill up to 2 uses after each use of the batpack (effectively you will see the charge of the mining drill "charging up" while progressively mining)

Which, in the end, doesn't make any difference, just wanted to mention it, though.

Yea got to use it ingame, very very cool, loving the new charging system.

I was afraid I'd have to risk my tool everytime I run out, then hope I had the batcharge for it, was afraid it'd cause me to gain a bad habit lol

Never used one, contemplating it now, unsure of their usage as the wiki seems a little unclear.

Do I charge it with 60k power then it only refills my drill once before being empty? Wouldn't that be a loss compared to 10k batteries? Or will it fill my drill 6x?

Can I charge it inside a Batbox even though a Batbox only has 40k power? Will it just siphon the rest of it until its full?

Not impossible to implement, using tile data to store the number. Although couldn't they just break it, and place a button, or break it and replace it, then reset the code? Also, I wonder if this would be more appropriate for redpower or some other redstone mod, as industrialcraft seems more about machines that use electricity.

I beg to differ, Industrialcraft encompasses a wide array of modern machinery/technologies. I think this would fit much better in IC as opposed to RP.
