Which version of Minecraft? I know that OC's IC2 compat hasn't been ported to 1.11 yet, but it should work with 1.10, through a power converter at the very least.
Yeah you need to use a power converter. I'm not entirely sure if the sides of the converter have specific connections, like in IC2 or Galacticraft, but if you play around with it for a while it will work.
