Found it though not sure why i would ever want to replace redstone with silver, perhaps a 3 silver ingot replacing diamond and redstone might be better?

Je, the recipe was meant to be overworked some, resulting in further nerfing diamondcables (by making them more expensive), whereas providing a recipe using ER Silver for more cables per recipe. Not fully done yet.

You get 50% more cables per diamond if you use silver.

Not to necro this, but what's the relationship with Redpower 2 here?
do I need it in order to get the silver ore or does it mess with the silver?
I have RP2, but for some reason the silver ore I mine won't crush and 2 silver ingots don't seem to work in the recipe.

You need at least pre-release 3 of RedPower for it to work.

I am a little confused. Just to get this right, the Forge Ore Dictionary is part of RedPower and silver is also and the Forge Ore Dictionary allows mods to use the same ore, right?
