Despite portals making so quite useless, teleporters should be able to teleport you across dimensions (namely to/from the nether).

Could be possible, but then again not.
I didn't yet meddle with trans-world travelling code and currently are busy with other segments of IC to try it ^^'But per se i wouldn't say it's a bad idea.

even trough it will be a cool idea, i think it will be useless, portals is too easy to make.
maybe a teleporter to the end but it realy dont have a use, there is a rock/sand in the end and then obsidian and nothing more, soo it will be useless to go there to. and if it is to fight the ender dragon, well, it will be like entering a cheat code to get to the final level in a game = not fun

Because you could travel to a specific point in the nether. Portals only move you to the "same position" in nether... whereas you can place and link teleporters from any spot, f.e. right next to a giant lava pool.

My thoughts exactly. Plus it would allow nether travel from convenient spots without that annoying portal noise.
Right now all of my portals are off in the distance for that very reason. -

Yo I still use minecarts, plus an inter-dimensional minecart teleporter would enable me to automatically harvest lava and transport in back to the overworld to be consumed as power, thats if im also using Buildcraft and Railcraft.

Wouldn't work, as in SSP only one world is loaded at a time.
The minecraft and anything in the nether is/would_be frozen as long as you're not in there, too. -
I think this is a brillant idea (if only you could keep the Nether alive whilst your not there) and you could have cables that could send power through the teleporter (at half the power rate)
