I don't know if this is a common problem with MineCraft or with IndustrialCraft or even my computer, but the Mass Fabricator really lags and when I Save & Exit my world, the 'sound' of the Mass Fabricator is still there.

Sound engine is sad when you try to leave the game and will try to annoy you into reloading the world.
Known issue. -
If you mean that your game lags when you walk away from the macerator and other machines like it then there is a solution here:

No, it did not. Still uses an old version of LJWGL

Ah, in that case I'll have to see if updating it helps. Seemed to do the trick on my 1.8.1 build.
